When did he leave school[edit]

Until yesterday the article said he left school in 1924 which would have made him 11 at the time. In Motor Sport (which ought to know but may not have) his obituary published here says firmly he got a job in a (motorcycle?) shop after his mother died. Lily died in the first quarter of 1928 when he might have been 15. The same obit in Motor Sport says that before the shop his mother had arranged an apprenticeship which he did not like. The Telegraph has a slightly different version of events. Someone else seems to think he was 17. Its my opinion the only reliable record would be in the hands of Belmont College Streatham Hill! I just find 1924 aged 11 too early to be believed - in the light of the "rich relative in Wales" who was presumably mother's relative. Eddaido (talk) 10:41, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
