The introduction...

The last paragraph before the article starts, the introduction portion, says Beyonce has sold more than 11.2 albums as a solo artist, however, she has sold MANY more than that...at least 20 million or so as a solo artist. However, all other sources other than this particular article, even Beyonce's albums articles add up a completely different number...Can that be fixed please/ mopre up-to-date? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gelleb (talkcontribs) 02:25, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

And why just in USA? You need to put the information sales worldwide! Beyoncé is an international artist! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.244.116.113 (talk) 03:20, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

I have not yet found a reliable source about Beyonce's worldwide sales. There are sources but they're her combined sales with Destiny's Child and not her sales as a solo artist. And some other sources claim she's sold more than 118/120 million but that's not true because her sales are around 60-70 million. See here Ozurbanmusic (talk) 06:31, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
It has now been mentioned that she's sold more than 75 million records worldwide. Ozurbanmusic (talk) 22:27, 11 February 2011 (UTC)

NABEF With Beyoncé to Support 'Let's Move!' Initiative with Flash Workout Event:

The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) is getting ready to bust some moves. The foundation is partnering with Beyonce for the “Let’s Move! Flash Workout” initiative to show support for Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign to curb childhood obesity. The event calls for middle school students around the U.S. to perform a pre-choreographed “Let’s Move” dance exercise at 1:42 p.m. on May 3. The event is being produced in partnership with the National Middle School Association, the National School Boards Association and the American Association of School Administrators. Beyonce has re-written and re-recorded one of her songs and is providing and instructional video demonstrating the “Let’s Move! Flash Workout” routine. “NABEF is proud to assist the First Lady’s ‘Let’s Move!’ campaign and supports efforts to address the epidemic of childhood obesity,” said NABEF President Marcellus Alexander. “We can think of no greater gift to America than keeping our schoolchildren healthy.” On Wednesday, the First Lady spoke on a conference call with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to discuss advancing the “Let’s Move!” program goal of doubling the number of U.S. schools participating in the Department of Agriculture’s HealthierUS School Challenge Program.

Relationship with Jay-Z

Beyoncé and Jay-Z: "Mega superstar singer Beyonce has reportedly let the word out that her husband, superstar musician and producer Jay-Z is the one and only to whom she lost her virginity. This revelation points to Beyonce’s disclosure that she’d only had two men in her life, a former boyfriend and her now husband Jay-Z. She goes on to detail that she’d had no real sexual experience although she did have a boyfriend or two when she was around 12 or 13 that lasted until she was 17. The 29-year-old “Dreamgirls” singer first dated Jay-Z around 2002 and kept their relationship under wraps until finally tying the knot in April of 2008 amongst such fanfare and media attention. The news that she had remained a virgin during her teens and adult life until finally getting married may be shocking to some but it’s the truth according to the singer. As attractive as she is – she had only one boyfriend before meeting the record mogul Jay-Z and they kept their integrity throughout their relationship until their relationship got serious. That is surprising for today’s standards but emphasizes the type of quality relationship the two have had and is an inspiration for other young people out there that it’s okay to keep themselves chaste until the right one comes along." http://www.mwza.com/beyonce-lost-virginity-to-jay-z/ http://kiss951.radio.com/2011/01/21/beyonce-talks-about-losing-her-virginity/ http://www.showbizspy.com/article/224697/beyonce-lost-her-virginity-to-jay-z-beyonce-hints-jay-z-is-the-first-man-she-had-sex-with.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.243.136.217 (talk) 01:32, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

House of Dereon Goes Global LF USA Acquires Beyond Productions:

"LF USA has acquired Beyond Productions LLC, the apparel and accessories company led by Beyoncé and Tina Knowles. Beyond Productions is a designer and licenser of women’s fashion apparel and accessories whose brands include House of Deréon, Deréon, Curvelicious and Miss Tina. In addition, LF USA has entered an endorsement agreement with Beyoncé for House of Deréon and Deréon. Terms of the long-term deal weren’t disclosed. Beyond Productions LLC was established in 2004 by the Knowleses, with Jason and Arthur Rabin and Cory Silverstein of Wear Me Apparel/Kids Headquarters, which is based in New York. Under the various monikers, Beyond Productions’ lines span ready-to-wear, casual sportswear, denim, outerwear, handbags, footwear and other accessories, which are distributed through department stores, mass merchants and specialty stores worldwide. In an interview Monday in New York with Beyoncé and Tina Knowles, Rick Darling, president of LF USA, and Bruce Rockowitz, president of Li & Fung (Trading) Ltd., they all spoke about their desire to expand the brands globally. “We’re at the point where we wanted to have more growth, and we needed someone who was global,” said Tina Knowles, creative director. “We’re very interested in taking the brand international, and L&F is the best at that.” She said the brand already has some distribution in Greece, Canada and China. Beyoncé told WWD she’s excited about the prospect of having more people wear the clothes and bringing the brands to a larger audience. “I just did a world tour, and I was able to see fans in the audience wearing Deréon in China and Egypt. To know that more people will have access to the brand is what we’ve worked so hard to do,” she said. She added that she’s very proud of Deréon, and has used the brand’s names in her songs’ lyrics. Darling explained that LF USA, which became acquainted with Beyond Productions through its 2009 acquisition of Kids Headquarters, is in the midst of expanding its portfolio of proprietary brands, “and this is a great addition.” “I think the brand hasn’t really been pushed the way that it could be. It’s done really well in a certain marketplace, and we think there’s a huge opportunity internationally that’s never been exploited,” said Darling. Rockowitz added that the acquisition will benefit from Li & Fung’s completion of its LF global network of LF USA, LF Asia and LF Europe. “Beyoncé is such a big name, and with her mother, the team is really strong and it has a global following,” he said. Darling added that he hopes LF USA will source as much of the product as they can themselves." http://live.drjays.com/index.php/2011/01/25/beyonces-company-bought-out-by-lf-usa/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.244.116.113 (talk) 00:00, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Beyoncé on the cover of L’Officiel Magazine (March 2011) paying tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti, transforming into an African Queen - The new direction of her new album (Fela inspired her in this fourth studio album): The Fashion magazine is about to celebrate its 90th birthday. To celebrathe this anniversary, the festivities start with the March issue, with Beyoncé on the cover. She agreed to pose for an incredible fashion shoot, with the theme of African Queen, paying a tribute to the legendary Fela Kuti. 2004–2007: Destiny's Child reunion, films, and B'Day

In this B'Day item, I think you need to talk about the creation of her all-female "Suga Mama" Band (composed by thirteen women)! In this article we don´t see anything about this and the creation of her female band was in this date! Originally created for her 2007 tour, The Beyoncé Experience and her 2006 studio album B'Day. Suga Mama also worked with Beyoncé during her appearances to promote her third album I Am... Sasha Fierce and are alongside her on her 2009 I Am... World Tour and on her special show in LA I Am... Yours to support the album. (I´m sorry, but this is too important for we only see this in her associated acts. This is all about - woman empowerment!)

Beyonce Donated Gadhafi Money to Haiti Relief over a year ago!

The hefty paycheck superstar singer Beyonce Knowles reportedly earned for performing for Libyan strongman Moammar Gadhafi's son was donated to a Haiti earthquake relief fund "over a year ago" the pop star's publicist said today. "All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year's Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti, over a year ago," Beyonce spokesperson Yvette Noel-Schure said in a statement to ABC News. "Once it became known that the third party promoter was linked to the [Gadhafi] family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause." Noel-Schure told the site that Beyonce contributed the money to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, which was established after that country's devastating earthquake last year. A spokesperson for the fund confirmed that Beyonce give $1 million to the Clinton Foundation, which was accepting donations for Haiti relief, in the first few weeks after the disaster.

Weird statement

I noticed the following statement in the article:

Knowles received three songwriting credits in a single year for co-writing "Irreplaceable", "Grillz" and "Check on It", the only woman to achieve since Carole King in 1971 and Mariah Carey in 1991.

That doesn't seem to make sense. First, the word "credits" is incorrect. A songwriting "credit" with respect to a given song means, simply, a published acknowledgement that a particular person composed or co-composed a given song. Obviously, probably hundreds or even thousands of women have written or co-written more that three songs in any single given year. I suspect that what is intended here is another word -- such as "award." Also, there seems to be some verbiage missing after the word "achieve." Achieve what? We have a transitive verb, so we need a direct object. Maybe the sentence should be:

Knowles received three songwriting awards in a single year for co-writing "Irreplaceable", "Grillz" and "Check on It", the only woman to achieve that distinction since Carole King in 1971 and Mariah Carey in 1991.

I'm not going to change the article, since I'm not sure what meaning was actually intended. Somebody help us out here.... Famspear (talk) 02:19, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

4

The new album is called "4." Aside from this being your fourth solo album, what significance does that number hold?

"We all have special numbers in our lives, and 4 is that for me. It's the day I was born. My mother's birthday, and a lot of my friends' birthdays, are on the fourth; April 4 is my wedding date."

How did the creative process begin with the new body of work?

I recorded more than 60 songs: everything I ever wanted to try, I just did it. I started off being inspired by [Afrobeat music pioneer] Fela Kuti. I actually worked with the band from "Fela!" [the hit Broadway musical based on his life] for a couple of days, just to get the feel for the soul and heart of his music; it's so sexy, and has a great groove you get lost in. I loved his drums, all the horns, how everything was on the one. What I learned most from Fela was artistic freedom: he just felt the spirit. I also found a lot of inspiration in '90s R&B, Earth, Wind & Fire, DeBarge, Lionel Richie, Teena Marie... I listened to a lot of Jackson 5 and New Edition, but also Adele, Florence + the Machine, and Prince. Add in my hip-hop influences, and you can hear how broad it is. I also gave myself more freedom to really belt out some songs, and bring soul singing back: I used a lot of the brassiness and grittiness in my voice that people hear in my live performances, but not necessarily on my records.

This is your first record that you've made without your father managing you. What sort of options opened up that may be different than before?

It's not that anything bad happened between us. My family has my support always, and they support me, but when you've been working with the same people for 15 years, it's natural to eventually have your own ideas. I believe that parents prepare their kids for the moment that they're on their own: at this point, I'm taking everything my dad and my mother have taught me, and I'm able to do things my way. We were at a point where we'd learned so much from each other, and now it's exciting for me to do this on my own and hire my own team. I've started managing myself.

- "I never get to go to concerts because I'm usually performing, so I saw so many shows - great bands, like Muse and Rage Against the Machine, that also inspired the album."

- "At this point, I really know who I am, and don't feel like I have to put myself in a box. I'm not afraid of taking risks - no one can define me."

ALBUM PREVIEW: “I wanted to do something refreshing and different,” Beyonce goes on to tell JustJared.com. “So I mixed genres and drew inspiration from touring, traveling, watching rock bands, and attending festivals… I was like a mad scientist, putting lots of different songs together.”

JustJared.com:

SONG #1 ———- Part of the song, tentatively titled “Till The End of Time,” has already leaked on YouTube. “The bass line was inspired by [Nigerian musician and composer] Fela Kuti,” Beyonce shared with JustJared.com. “It’s my nephew Julez’s favorite song.” (JJ Tidbit: Jay-Z produced the Broadway musical Fela! about the late Nigerian singer.)

SONG #2 ———- This mid-tempo song has lots of drums much like “Run The World.” “Babyface wrote the song,” Beyonce told JustJared.com. The track is about karma and revenge and kicks off with, “What goes around comes back around.” Some key phrases from the song include, “Best thing I’ve ever had” and “Best thing you’ve never had.” The best line in the song goes, “You showed your ass, baby I saw the real you.” The song closes with, “Sucks to be you right now.”

SONG #3 ———- This ballad is moody and dark. It’s a song that will really sit with you, rather than be an instant smash hit. One fan asked Beyonce if she was crying at the beginning of the song because it sounded like she was. “Almost,” she responded. “I was on the verge.” Jeff Bhasker penned this song, Beyonce confirmed. “It’s one of my favorite songs [off of the album],” she said. Some sample lyrics: “I told you how you hurt me/ I’m crying and deserted but you don’t care/ Nobody told me this is love/ You’re immune to all my pain/ This is love but that’s okay… But I care/ I know you don’t care too much/ But I still care.”

SONG #4 ———- This track starts off the lyrics “killing me softly” and samples Boyz II Men’s “Uhh Ahh.” Beyonce uses the countdown and sings between each decremental number, “10, 9, 8…” “Boyz II Men were the first ones to put Destiny’s Child on tour,” Beyonce told JustJared.com. “They showed us how to treat an opening act and I will never forget that. That was 15 years ago! Wow, 15 years! (laughs) I’m old.” Some sample lyrics: “Dedicated to the one I love… diamonds in that chain… Riding that pony.. showing him how you ride… If you leave me, you’re out of your mind. London, speed it up. Houston, rock it.” What did Jay-Z think of this song? “He liked it,” Beyonce told JustJared.com. “I don’t think he was dissecting it, just thinking of what he could do to it as a rapper.”

SONG #5 ———- Beyonce had the lights turned down for this beautiful ballad. Here’s how the song starts: “If I ain’t got nothing, I got you/ If I ain’t got something, I don’t give a damn/Because I got…” “I don’t know much about algebra but one plus one is two,” she croons. “He ain’t got nothing but love. Darling, you got enough for the both of us. Make love when my days look low, pull me in close.” justjared.buzznet.com/2011/05/11/beyonce-4-album-preview/?ref=topposts —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.240.99.40 (talk) 23:50, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Why on earth would I write saying that I think it would be a good idea for one to be created if one already exists? Try converting your sarcasm into logic and thought next time before you put finger to keyboard. calvin999 (talk) 09:26, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Calvin, I already added links to the article before you posted this discussion. Check the 'Discography' and '4' sections. Ozurbanmusic (talk) 10:34, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Ok but I can't help that I couldn't see any separate article about '4' when i looked yesterday. calvin999 (talk) 13:05, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Forbes.

Forbes released their annual Best-Paid Celebrities Under 30 list this week. Beyonce popped up at No. 8 after earning $35 million between May 2010 and May 2011. Forbes noted that was low placement for the diva due to the fact she spent most of the past year off the road and recording her new album, '4,' due June 28. The earnings come from mostly non-music related ventures like her fashion label Dereon and promotional contracts with L'Oréal, DirecTV, General Mills and more. Source. Filmography / Videography

Shouldn't the movies she starred in be under "Filmography" and her music videos be listed under "Videography"?

And is "Videography" even a real word? --Mistermagoo90 (talk) 20:48, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Videography includes all types of videos, ie films, music videos, video albums, commercials etc. We could change the section header in this article to "Filmography" though, as it only lists films. Adabow (talk · contribs) 21:25, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

Naming

I don't know if it's already been brought up, I'm not searching through various archives to check so if somebody could just tell me if it's already been discussed, then this is not needed. I am curious as to Wikipedia:Commonname. Why is she called Beyoncé Knowles? Her stage name is "Beyoncé" and a lot of celebrities have their public name used e.g. Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent. Jayy008 (talk) 15:51, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Of course it's been brought up before. If you can't be bothered searching through archives then don't bring it up again. —Andrewstalk 20:55, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
There are six full archives, too much work for me. But hardly any work for you to reply. Jayy008 (talk) 16:35, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Don't be a Smart Alec Andrew. I wanted to know why her signature is needed in her info box? That seems ridiculous to me.--99.177.248.92 (talk) 23:21, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

In summary, while she usually works as "Beyoncé" with her music, outside of this (films, products etc) she takes both names. And as for the signature, it is included because it can be. I have no objection to removing it, however I am not sure why it need be removed. See the WP:SLP proposal and this discussion with Jimmy Wales. —Andrewstalk 04:36, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Requested move

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Again no consensus to move. Vegaswikian (talk) 18:28, 14 August 2011 (UTC) Beyoncé KnowlesBeyoncé – I am re-opening this discussion, as I still (after a long time), find it quite ridiculous that her name here is Beyoncé Knowles. People, her stage name is Beyoncé, look at all her single and and album covers for God's sake. Do you see her last name on 4? On "BTINH"? No, because its not a name she or her label recognize her by professionally. Do we right "Hung Up (Madonna Ciccone)", or "S&M (Rihanna Fenty song)? No. This must be discussed and hopefully changed. Please, everyone comment and try and reach consensus.

  • Change - But depends if you want to get into whether or not in the early days of Destiny's Child, if she was only Beyonce then as well? I'm not sure. But Madonna and Rihanna have always been known by their single name. Calvin NaNaNaC'mon! 12:22, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
I used to follow DC since they started, and from what I remember, which is something decent, she was always known as Beyonce.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 12:26, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Change. This was really needed. Jivesh Talk2Me 14:12, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Oppose. I am changing my vote after seeing the points raised by Ending-Start. Beyonce is not only a singer. She is credited as Beyonce Knowles in films and by the same name on the booklets of her albums. Jivesh Talk2Me 02:40, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Note – She was credited as Beyonce only from The Writing of the Wall onwards. — Legolas (talk2me) 14:14, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, that is over 12 years ago, and before she was very notable. All this success she's accomplished has been by her first name.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:49, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
I don't understand your view Kevin? That search shows around 750 results for BK and over 5,000 for B, so I don't see why you've chosen that. Care to elaborate?--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 17:49, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, maybe a 7th of the time her first name is.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 19:41, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

*Change. This is a very "touchy" subject that has been in need of discussion for quite some time! Yes Beyoncé Knowles is her real name, but real names are almost never used in the industry. Entertainers such as Usher Terry Raymond IV, Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas and Madonna Louise Ciccone (to name a few), all go by their first name only, and Beyoncé's profession follows in the same footsteps. However, in multiple interviews she is referred to by her full name Beyoncé Knowles. My vote is leaning more to Change, but could possibly change in time, after some thought and consideration. Theuhohreo (talk) 15:35, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Oppose. After much thought and insight from other users, I change my vote to oppose. Sites and interviews can say what they want, the woman's name is Beyonce Knowles. And we must take her acting (and possible directing) career into account, where she is credited by her full name. "Beyonce" redirects here, and thats good enough for me. Theuhohreo (talk) 03:27, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Note: I think it could be changed to simply Beyoncé as her last name is almost never mentioned by anyone, this includes Allmusic, Billboard, MTV. Her full name is only mentioned when publishers speak of her early years in the business.--Harout72 (talk) 15:45, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Not convincedNote: This vote will be able to be persuaded either way. I've always thought that this article should just be under her recording name, but since she is also an actress, and when credited as such her last name is used, I am not convinced. I see no real problem with including both, it's not like she goes by a completely different name when she records, she just drops her last name. nding·start 19:34, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Also, Madonna has never used her last name, even when acting, same as Rihanna, so it's not the same thing. Beyoncé uses both. nding·start 19:35, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Change per Wikipedia:Article titles#Common names Beyoncé's surname is still used or mentioned, but Google News results show that the media call her Beyoncé (with no mention of her surname) about nine times out of ten. Google Search results suggest an even higher ratio across the indexed web; she is the only well known person with this name. Needless to say there will need to be a redirect from Beyoncé Knowles, since that name is still in occasional use. Rubywine . talk 20:27, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Nothing has changed since the last move request a year ago. WP:NCP still says "Similarly, don't use a first name (even if unambiguous) for an article title if the last name is known and fairly often used." Reliable sources still use Ms. Knowles' last name "fairly often", so there's no reason to change. Furthermore, WP:TITLECHANGES says "If an article title has been stable for a long time, and there is no good reason to change it, it should not be changed." This article has been stable at this title for ages. It's unseemly to keep repeating a move request until one gets one's desired result. Powers T 00:39, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
"Nothing has changed since the last move request a year ago" -- Untrue. Google Insights for Search [1] shows a striking increase in searches on Beyonce over the last four months, peaking in July around Glastonbury, while the number of searches on Beyonce Knowles (a very small subset) has barely fluctuated. Although I am no statistician I'd say this diverging trend shows the use of her name without the surname is on the increase. Rubywine . talk 01:21, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Support. Clearly the common name in the majority of reliable sources. It is Wikipedia practice to use artist's stage names when they are the most common usage. Jenks24 (talk) 01:03, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
No offense, but thats not really a reason to sway consensus.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 05:31, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
Do you want real reasons? First, we are not requesting Oprah Winfrey being moved to Oprah just becasue she is Oprah and "Oprah" gives 97,800,000 against 48,800,000 of "Oprah Winfrey", Answer=NO. Knowles has been cited as Knowles thanks to her film production and even in her music videos, she performs as Beyoncé Knowles. Also, if you are going to cite Google, note that this article must be called Beyonce (without the accent). You people cannot type accents on your English computers unlike me. At Google, "Beyonce" hits 209,000,000 againts "Beyoncé"'s 74,600,000 hits, so the "common name" is not "Beyoncé". Also, as per User:LtPowers: "If an article title has been stable for a long time, and there is no good reason to change it, it should not be changed." This article has been in that way since 2006, there is no good reason to change it, Beyoncé still redirecting here, Am I missing something? Again, if it is not broken do not attempt to fix it. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 18:36, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

  • Oppose WP:NCP: "don't use a first name (even if unambiguous) for an article title if the last name is known and fairly often used. For example, Oprah Winfrey is the article title, and Oprah redirects there." This has been brought up over and over again; read the old discussions. She uses both names outside the music industry (eg film, fashion), while with her musical work about 80%-90% of the time she has used her first name. —Andrewstalk 05:54, 8 August 2011 (UTC)
If so, then Drake (entertainer) would be Aubrey Graham, since he is credited as Aubrey Graham for 139 episodes in almost 10 years with Degrassi. See. It's just Beyonce. -- ipodnano05 * leave@message 06:13, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
Not true at all. In his latest post-music film role (in Ice Age 4: Continental Drift) he is credited as Drake. On Beyoncé's latest film (Obsessed) she is credited by her full name, with having a solo music career for six years. And the two can't even compare, she just drops her last name for her album covers, that's pretty much all it is. Drake uses his middle name. nding·start 13:38, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
Um, it is the same. Show me ONE of Beyonce's albums or singles that mentions "Knowles"? Doesn't exist! I mean, do you realize how stupid it looks to have an album show BEYONCE and then write "4 is an album by singer Beyonce Knowles. It look retarded. Even on the Sasha Fierce article, you guys wrote it as Beyonce.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 22:12, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
I suggest you watch your word choice, and stop biting people's heads off if they disagree with you. I NEVER said she was labelled with her last name on her albums, I never even mentioned her album articles, I'm talking about THIS page. She is NOT just a recording artist, but also an actress and a businesswoman. You're looking at this from one side only. nding·start 23:38, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Oppose. The article should keep the current name, because the artist is quoted as Beyoncé Knowles in various activities it performs. Lucas Brígido Msg 17:01, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
  • Support. Her full name is only used as much as Kesha, Madonna, and Cher's: little. She is almost never professionally referred to as Beyonce Knowles, so why should we keep her full name as the article title? --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 21:06, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Kesha's is only used in her album booklet, Madonna's was NEVER used, and I don't know about Cher. If you are going to compare her name situation with someone, make it relevant and of equal standings. Beyoncé uses her last name TO THIS DAY in her album booklets, her clothing line, film production and starring role credits. Just to name a few that I am aware of. Just because she drops her last name on her album cover means nothing. nding·start 22:05, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
What are you saying? Her clothing line is called "House of Deréon" and the company is run by her mother Tna Knowles, not Beyonce Knowles. Face it, no matter what her name is on 5 films, songwriting credits that she didn't earn (gimme a break, she changes a word and tries to claim she wrote it)[citation needed], versus her whole music empire which she built on "Beyonce", let a lone everyone on this planet doesn't know who Knowles is.--CallMeNathanTalk2Me 22:09, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
So you are telling me that if somebody goes to the article Beyoncé Knowles they will not know it is the same person as Beyoncé? I find that hard to believe. nding·start 23:34, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
If I told a random person "I love Ms. Knowles" I am sure they would ask me "who?" On the other hand, if I said "I love Ms. Spears" The would more than likely know that I was talking about Britney Spears. Her last name is not used because her stage name is simply Beyonce. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 20:31, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

This is "english" wikipedia and as such we only have the standard letter "e" on our keyboards (see here). Secondly, I agree also that this article should be shortened to "Beyoncé". Common names apply when naming articles and when anyone uses her first name, we instantly know who it is don't we? Exactly how other "Beyoncés" are there anyway? It can help in a section

Beyoncé is such a force of nature that it's easy to overlook her trump card: She's a bit of a weirdo. Not a weirdo like her stiffest competition, Lady Gaga. (Wearing sirloin to an awards show isn't B's style.) Her weirdness is musical - it's in the idiosyncratic way she syncopates her vocals, the odd melodies she floats over rugged beats, her sui generis mix of rap bravado, gospel sanctimony and old-fashioned showbiz razzle-dazzle.

I mean I respect her influence on younger generation and awards/achievements or whatever, But what did she contribute to Pop or to Music? I mean seriously what???/ I'm quite skeptical on her Legacy... The legacy section lacks this kind of info. The legacy section looks like a fan fabricated page. The legacy section needs a paragraph where Beyonce as an Icon/Legend contributed to Pop and to Music not just inspirations and awards and stuffs. I think Beyonce should be added to the "African American Female Singers" list on Wikipedia

I think that Beyonce should be added to the following category:

Nigerian ancestry

Beyonce Knowles has Nigerian roots. She, herself mentions it in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGSQH51bN-Y&feature=related where she goes on to sing the Nigerian national anthem. My previous comment about the same topic was not even properly answered as to whether it should or should not be included in this article. I prithee that this will. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.194.231.189 (talk) 11:31, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

The video cited as a source is insufficient to validate her Nigerian ancestry. If you watch it, it just seems that she is saying that her ancestors are from Africa in general as opposed to Nigeria specifically. As we know, most of the Western world see no difference between referring to Africa as a country and specifying a country within Africa. --Becasue (talk) 13:50, 29 October 2011 (UTC)

Katy Perry Credits Beyonce For Inspiration: “Teenage Dreams” singer Katy Perry is newly married to British comic star Ruseell Brand. But the “Firework” singer insists she won’t focus solely on love songs. “There is an obvious element in me that wants to entertain people and make their faces light up,” she is quoted as saying. “So I won’t only be singing songs about being a married woman.” “I always say a good example of that is Beyoncé. She sang Single Ladies but everyone knows she’s with Jay-Z,” she added. Beyonce as a married woman dominated the charts with “Single Ladies” and provide inspiration for many women, so it’s safe to say Katy Perry is following good company.

Beyoncé is NY Post’s best singer/dancer in pop music today : "#1 Beyoncé: Was there any doubt B would snag the top slot? If you thought otherwise, I don't know what you've been doing for the last 15 years, but it certainly wasn't watching a single live performance - be it in concert or on television - as the megastar consistently devoted every ounce of her to the routine. And the fact she was able to do it night after night on her seemingly endless I Am Sasha Fierce Tour makes Beyonce's professionalism and skill all the more impressive,Best Moves: "Single Ladies" on 2008 AMA's." http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/popwrap/the_five_best_singer_dancers_cYbRv3gSlMhLlNx9adkbAM —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.245.102.59 (talk) 00:53, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Beyonce to Be Honored with Billboard Millennium Award at Billboard Music Awards

Although Beyonce Knowles may already don the title of Queen B, Billboard is making it official, awarding the superstar with 2011′s Billboard Millennium Award. Knowles, who has been topping Billboard’s charts since 2003, will be honored May 22 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, hosted by funny man, Ken Jeong. Her influence on the industry as a Sasha Fierce performer, actress and producer has cast her as a true living legend — only magnified by her union with equally influential music master, Jay Z. The ‘Single Ladies’ singer will also be celebrated by her peers, Cee Lo Green, Nicki Minaj, Pitbull, The Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Taio Cruz who will all perform in salute to the diva. Born and bred as a founding force behind Destiny’s Child, she had us all saying her name before she went solo. From there, Knowles has gone on to win 16 Grammy Awards and shattered Billboard records with hits like, ‘Beautiful Liar.’ It’s no doubt that Knowles knows how to ‘Run The World (Girls)’ and her fourth studio album, set for release later this year, will continue to lead her from Destiny to reality.

Beyoncé wins 2011 simply for loving the job more than everyone else. Beyoncé was simply born to be on stage, wear shiny clothes, and work a room—but because Beyoncé means it, wants it, has the voice, and knows whom to hire to flesh out her ideas.

Requested move (July 2010)

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: no consensus to move page at this time, per discussion below. This one is close, but there's not a strong enough consensus here to move the page. - GTBacchus(talk) 17:16, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Beyoncé KnowlesBeyoncé — Obvious case of WP:COMMONNAME. Note that this requested move also applies to Beyoncé Knowles discography and any article ending with "(Beyoncé Knowles song)"; frankly, I'm too lazy to fill out the move-multi template for that many articles. I'm aware that a move request was made not too long ago in March, but I still have some points to make that I don't think were addressed.

Firstly, I think it's fair to say that Knowles is more well-known for her musical than dramatic endeavors; as far as I know, she only uses her legal name when acting. Musically, she is known by the mononym. Secondly, let's take a look at ghits (all numbers are by the millions). Compare 1.35 and 5.02 for "beyoncé knowles" and "beyonce knowles" (both without quotes), respectively, to "beyoncé" and "beyonce"'s respective 13.2 and 43.7.

A concern was raised at the last move request that Knowles is not the only person with the name Beyoncé. That being said, she is the only person well known by that singular name and wiki does not have any articles on others with the same forename. If any are created, dablinks can easily be added to the top of this article as Knowles would almost certainly be the primary topic. |Relisting billinghurst sDrewth 22:50, 21 July 2010 (UTC) |Chase (talk) 08:41, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

And re:this comment from the last move req: "What's funny is that a guideline specifically uses Ms. Knowles as an example of when one should include WP:LASTNAME." LASTNAME is actually about subsequent uses of last names in an article, not what an article should be titled. Therefore, everything referring to Knowles after the first sentence would remain "Knowles". –Chase (talk) 08:47, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose. My sense is that this still doesn't rise to the level of the ur-examples, Madonna and Cher. Powers T 15:00, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Could you explain why you think so? The ghits say a lot... –Chase (talk) 18:06, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
    • Indeed they do; compare Beyonce's ratio to those for "Madonna Ciccone" and "Cherilyn Sarkisian". =) (The tricky part, of course, being that all three mononyms can refer to other things besides the artists, especially "Madonna".) Powers T 19:30, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
      • In the case of Cher, Cher (disambiguation) exists to avoid confusion and the Madonna article itself is disambiguated with "(entertainer)". Ms. Knowles is at this point, the only notable subject on wiki with the name Beyoncé (hence why that currently redirects here). –Chase (talk) 21:07, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
        • Additionally, Cher and Madonna have greater mononym to real name ratios because they almost always use their mononyms professionally. Knowles often uses her legal name when acting but the ghits still show that she is far more well-known simply as Beyoncé. –Chase (talk) 21:12, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
          • The fact that Knowles often uses her legal name is sufficient in my book to keep the article at its current title. Powers T 23:33, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
            • What she is occasionally known as is ruled out by what she is more well known as, per WP:COMMONNAME. –Chase (talk) 00:48, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
              • Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people) says "Similarly, don't use a first name (even if unambiguous) for an article title if the last name is known and fairly often used." I believe Beyonce still falls into that category. Powers T 12:51, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
        • I certainly don't dispute that this article is the primary topic for Beyonce. Powers T 23:33, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose Beyonce was known as Beyonce Knowles for a long time, unlike Madonna and Cher. 76.66.192.55 (talk) 22:14, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Key word: was. We go with what she is more well-known as per WP:COMMONNAME and Google shows that Beyoncé alone is far more common. –Chase (talk) 00:48, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
    • No it's not a key word. She is known as BK for a long time is not proper English. 76.66.192.55 (talk) 02:36, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
      • What I mean is that she was well known as Beyoncé Knowles back in the Destiny's Child days and currently occasionally in her film roles. She is more well known as Beyoncé now. –Chase (talk) 04:58, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
        • 50 Cent goes by his birth name Curtis Jackson when he appears in movies, does that mean that we should move "50 Cent" to "Curtis Jackson"? Beyoncé is far more well-known under her mononym than she is under her full name. Her albums are officially released under her first name only, news articles mainly refer to her as just "Beyoncé" and not "Beyoncé Knowles". Even her official website refers to her by her first name only http://www.beyonceonline.com/us/home . 24.189.87.160 (talk) 22:39, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Support As above, she is overwhelmingly known simply as Beyoncé. I wasn't even aware of her surname before reading this article. City of Destruction (The Celestial City) 00:59, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose Beyoncé is also known as B. Knowles in her work on the films, credits of her songs, and some music videos. TbhotchTalk C. 20:12, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Songwriting credits should not be taken into consideration, since any songwriter with a stage name will be credited with their legal name. 24.189.87.160 (talk) 23:40, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
  • May I ask which music videos? And as the IP above me said, most songwriters are generally credited with their legal names. –Chase (talk) 21:07, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
