Beethoven[edit]

Ludwig van Beethoven's name was a partial phonetic Germanization of the Dutch term for "from Betuwe". His ancestors stemmed from there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.82.234.98 (talk) 20:44, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Should this article not be merged with Batavia (region)[edit]

As per title.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 11:17, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It ought to be yes, they're Dutch and Latin names for the same region. I've started a merger proposal. Zacwill (talk) 10:45, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This has been raised before by User:Andrew Lancaster at Talk:Batavia (region)#Should this article not be merged with Betuwe? where User:Prinsgezinde disagreed. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:01, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Basically you are saying one is the "History" article for the other? This will not at all be obvious to most English speakers. Batavia is not even mentioned on the Betuwe article today, and if we add more links to catch all misunderstandings then we'll be asking ourselves why we did not just merge. Normally on WP this would be handled by having a history article or section. In this case, given that the articles are short, I think a merge would normally be quite possible?--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 19:17, 14 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I would support a merge. I think the quality of one united article would be better.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 22:41, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Noting the consensus on both pages and the obvious logic, I intend to push this through unless there is some meaningful reason given not to.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 18:49, 22 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think in practice it is easiest to merge this article into the other one. One reason is that this article is basically a stub, and another is that I believe the word Betuwe is almost never used in English.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 10:06, 23 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have expanded the other article with material including from this article. I think it is possible to now to turn this article into a redirect. --Andrew Lancaster (talk) 09:20, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No objection. Srnec (talk) 19:56, 24 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go ahead, having waited a while. I will add a histmerge template.--Andrew Lancaster (talk) 17:30, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
