Making a start[edit]

I've started this page as I thought people may find it of interest. It is not complete, but I have made an effort. I think the following sections need to be added:

  • Sport
  • Performing Arts
    • Beths Big Band
    • Drama Productions
  • School Performance
  • Curriculum Offered
  • Historical Trivia
    • Past headmasters
    • Alumni (Steve Backley?)

Also, given copyright permission from the School, I want to add the school crest. When I work out how, I'll add an info table floated on the right with general facts, like current headmaster, motto, LEA, etc.

Perhaps others who know the school well can contribute? Also, all the facts thus far are from my head - I need to check dates when I can.

On dates I am certain the date of achieving grammar status is wrong. I left in 1978 and it was still Bexley Erith Technical High School

As I studied Biology in my lunchtimes in 1976 in a Chemistry lab, as Biology wasn't offered at BETHS, i can be prettys sure the new block didn't exist in 1975. Where is this erroneous 1970s information coming from? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nakedbatman (talkcontribs) 17:15, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Major Edit for Corrections[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Beths_Grammar_School&diff=52461668&oldid=52361581

Visiting the page recently, I saw there was a spate of vanadlism which was dealt with. Unfortunately, other information was added which was innappropriate. In future, changes should be discussed here before editting the main article, unless reverting due to vandalism.

School Name Changes[edit]

The school's offical name is Beths Grammar School, which is the title of the article. Beths is no longer an accrnym for Bexley and Erith Technical High School as most of that information is now false. Thus, the accronym should be mentioned purely in a historical context, not in the introduction.

(Corrected: May 10 2006)

Prefect Teams[edit]

Mentioning the current senior prefects in the body of the article is wrong - it is current information which should be listed under its own section. If this is to be done, I think it is only right that the prefect team in its entirety should be listed. However, this will attract vandalism and those on the list may object to having their name on the article. The same applies to School Captains. I have changed this to have its own subsection within Prefects, and reversed the chronological order. This is still subject to names being removed, however, at persons' discretion.

School Captains[edit]

Pretty sure that Dan Cooper was Captain before 1998. Also Jason Bannister was there in 2002 as well as RC. Rajan Patel finished 2005

I am going to add a list of all the school captains that the school has on record, for historical context. would this be a good move? The real br (talk) 01:21, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where is that information recorded? It could be useful to some people, but I think it might detract from the article. I'd suggest creating a new article, like List of Beths Grammar School Captains, or if the information is available, how about List of Beths Grammar School Prefect Teams, which would include captains and (senior) prefects. Then link to the article from a prefects section which includes the current school captain, maybe vice-captains too, and a little information about their responsibilities, notable school captains/prefects, etc. --smiler (talk) 18:54, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Townley[edit]

They probably deserve a mention in there, since some A level lessons are taken there. Aren't we supposed to be partnered or twinned with them anyhow?--Tiresais 19:32, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spam[edit]

I'm from the school itself and I'm shocked at the amount of spam which is currently on the page. Yet no one sees anything wrong with it. I've tried to get rid of the main bulk of it but... There needs to be firmer action taken to spammers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.16.215.90 (talkcontribs) 19:20, 5 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. Just look in one of the ICT rooms at lunchtime. There are a lot of vandals out there. The problem is that Wikipedia has so many articles that this article doesn't seem important. The way that vandals are dealt with is that they recieve messages on their talk page. First they just get a general note (or if they're lucky, a Good Faith), then a caution, two warnings and then they're blocked. --lEoN2323 20:16, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re[edit]

I have just gone through about 20 different edits to return to a wholly valid version of this page. If vandalism occurs, do not attempt to edit it out. Instead, find the last version that was correct, chose to edit it, then save the page - this will make that version the current version. That way, useful information will not be lost when people edit out vandalism.

smiler 12:51, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you misunderstand both the recent edits and the edit summaries accompanying them. Not only were obvious vandalism edits removed ("EVAN FOR SCHOOL CAPTAIN" etc.) but a number of unsourced items. Reverting is not the only appropriate way to handle vandalism or other inappropriate material. Please remember that Wikipedia requires reliable sources that allow for verification. If sources are not provided, any editor is welcome to remove material from articles. Thanks, Gwernol 13:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Location categories[edit]

  • It is unnecessary to have two categories on the same article, one of which entails the other. If you take a look at Category:Grammar schools in England you will see that it does not contain all the grammar schools in England, or even try to. It contains the smaller-area subcategories, which subsequently contain individual articles. As well as that, it contains articles for schools which do not fall into any of the areas for which there are geographical subcategories (since those subcategories are not exhaustive). We don't need to put both categories on. Jdcooper 22:44, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

School Council[edit]

This section needs expansion. What are the councils' responsibilities? What is the difference between the Year Council and the School Council? smiler (talk) 14:53, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited this section, as I am a member of the sixth form currently and of the school council. The real br (talk) 01:20, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
