Noteability?

Ahmed doesn't quite appear to be WP:BLP WP:NOTE based on this article and the references given... the article may need deletion. Thoughts? Timeshift (talk) 06:33, 21 July 2012 (UTC)

As it stands the article needs a fair bit of work, but I'm inclined to think a good search will probably get him past GNG; I mean, he did win Victorian of the Year. I'll have a bit of a look (much) later today, if no one else does so first. Frickeg (talk) 01:11, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

All right, rather later than promised but ... I wouldn't think WP:ONEEVENT would apply here; the award itself is perhaps not notable (although I really think it might be; he wasn't just nominated, he actually won the thing, and it's not a minor award), but there's plenty of other stuff around. Here is a write-up from just after his win, which claims he was the first African-Australian to stand for parliament (hard to verify, but important). Other sources: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]; in fact the whole Google News archive result for him, which has 45 results but many of them significant, including a couple based solely around his comments concerning an issue (this well before the by-election).
