Topic Disambiguation

This article requires a revision to reflect the fact that benchmarking has broader scope than just business processes. For example Systems Benchmarking should be mentioned as an important area both for industry and research. At a minimum this should at least be mentioned in the introduction possibly linking to related pages: Benchmark_(computing). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:810D:ABC0:C9E0:501E:1F2A:CDEE:A3C5 (talk) 13:37, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

History Section

The history section for this page has a pretty interesting way of coming to the conclusion of the etymology for the word "benchmark". Except that it directly conflicts with the wiktionary nomenclature which makes a whole lot more sense. Most of the other results for the search "benchmark etymology" also state the origin being from surveying and not the roundabout mark bench as stated in the article. Should this be changed? 203.15.109.254 (talk) 00:38, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

I managed to find the specific edit where the etymology was changed. The previous version was the more commonly accepted surveying version of the origin. It would be interesting to know if the marksbenchship origin has any sources. 203.15.109.254 (talk) 00:48, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
