Dark Side[edit]

Bembridge School had a dark side. There are posts on the Knowhere Guide (Bembridge)that attest to abuse. I suggest that there should be mention of this. 8:15, 23 June, 2008 (EST) Maybe so, but any boarding school of the era was likely to have had a dark side. I would argue that Bembridge was unusually humane for its day in not allowing prefects to cane pupils, and restricting caning to the most senior staff. (Some masters still used a heavy hand, short of the cane.) It also did not allow cadet force or Boy Scouts, because of the Warden's ideals. This, for better or for worse, was unusual for the time. Some of the comments on the Knowehere Guide seem to relate to a different school. It seems to me necessary to keep a historical and sociological balance in these difficult matters, whilst deploring on principle,any form of physical, emotional or sexual abuse.Caemorley (talk) 11:49, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I would add that Latin and Greek were not taught at Bembridge due to the Warden's philosophy. However, the ideals were not always followed. The posts on the Knowhere Guide (Bembridge)that attest to abuse do refer to Bembridge.
