Reverts[edit]

Hi @Drmies: would you mind explaining why you reverted all of the work done to add the 2020 Beirut Pride to the article? Certainly things are always perfectible, but maybe things could have been discussed with the people involved?

I think somethings have been reverted that could have stayed in the article. For example if I examine this last diff you have taken away some pieces that I agree with were not written in an encyclopedic tone ("persons with colorful and festive events". However, you have also taken away chunks of the sentence changing its meaning. It was initially :

" Operating to decriminalize homosexuality in Lebanon, Beirut Pride celebrates the diversity of LGBTIQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, intersex, queer, questioning +) persons with colorful and festive events, champions LGBTIQ+ allies, and communicates about LGBTIQ+ topics. Beirut Pride takes place over several days in many venues in Beirut that vary every year, and runs a number of events such as panel discussions, seminars, debates, workshops, cultural and sports events, art and fashion exhibitions, theatre and performance, film screenings, literary events, community hang outs, food gatherings, parties and celebrations."

I think this pride is not all about decriminalizing homosexuality, but you are erasing the part about "celabrating LGBTIQ diversity" which is an important part and a different topic than just homosexuality.

I have not looked at everything else in detail, but I definitely disagree with the part about the 2020 Pride disapearing totally from the article. Could you please put back the information, and I see you are an experienced editor, maybe you can formulate it in a neutral way??

Nattes à chat, thank you for your message but no, I am not going to do that, because I can't. An encyclopedia needs to be written based on reliable secondary sources. Inserting content and then whittling it down to clean it up and then possibly finding the sources to verify the content, that is the wrong way around. "Celebrating diversity" is a bit of a cliche already, but like you said, that whole "colorful and festive" stuff, followed by a list of major and minor events, that's the kind of language one finds on organizational websites--we shouldn't find it in an encyclopedia. What I did was remove unacceptable content; I can't write the acceptable content because I don't have access to the sources. If you do, then go for it. The bottom line is, or should be, if you can't find it in the newspaper or the magazine (that's the kind of sourcing available for an article like this), it probably shouldn't be in the article. @Drmies: thanks for your answer, I think this Beirut Pride edition is worthy mentionning, not the least because of the explosion that has devastated parts of the queer scene in Beirut see 1 (Pink News, a reliable source for LGBTIQ content), 2 (NYT) and here (BBC) mentionning the difficulties in organizing the said pride. So I think part of the content can be restaured using thses sources as well, so much for the encyclopedic touch. Nattes à chat (talk) 23:49, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to go ahead and make some piecemeal changes, re-integrating some of the content that Drmies has reverted where I can see encyclopedic value and adequate sourcing.
