See 2002 Bali bombing for the bombing in Kuta, Bali. The island was unaffected by the 2004 tsunami; it's perhaps 2000 km east of Aceh, which was hardest-hit, and is well protected by Sumatra and Java. CDC (talk) 02:02, 25 July 2005 (UTC)

"Balinese bow"

In a play I'm in, it says that one of the characters does a "Balinese bow" to the audience's applause. Does anyone know if this is something specific, or just a general flouncy bow?

A Balinese bow would most likely be bent at the waist with both arms stretched out to one side of the torso and the most important jesture is with the hands. The thumb is pressed back onto the palm, and fingers are outstretched and bent back as much as possible. Think of an Hindu mudra pose using fingers arched back towards your wrist.

History, beaches and arts

the picture of balinese dancers in this article is mislabled as legong keraton. The costumes are more in the style of Tari Belibes or perhaps even Chendrawasih?

Recently I was involved in a number of long conversations with an Indian scholar holidaying in Bali. He came from the Orissa region of Indian, previously known as Kalinga.

He explained that Asoka the Great, an ancient Indian King, had conquered Kalinga then, following that, pushed forward into what in now Thailand, then into Sumatra, Java and Bali.

The name Bali, my Indian friend explained, is derived from the names of the towns in Kalinga (Orissa). Here is the list of such:

Muslims from other island

Who wrote this following sentence? "The estimated percentage of Muslim residents of Bali from other islands is about 25%." I wonder where he/she got this information from, while even the intensive census concluded only 5.7% of Bali inhabitants are Muslims. Matahari Pagi 08:35, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Casliber - thanks for taking the initiative. This article could be really good, and deserves to be. General thoughts from me would be to ensure quality. Some areas could do with more quantity, but the History section, for example, I think is long enough - we just need to provide inline cites. Also, i notice the lead. We need to ensure that it doesn't have material that is not covered in the main article. Ie, it's a very brief summary of the article - see WP:LEAD. Another thing that has broad but not total support, is that in-line cites don't need to be in the lead as long as that exact point is cited in the body. This is the case in Indonesia which is an FA.
