Victorian Pharmacy[edit]

Does Victorian Pharmacy belong here also? --woodensuperman 13:06, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking it's probably better to delete "Secrets of the castle" which doesn't have the farming content of the others.

I think the best course of action would be to leave the ...Pharmacy, ...Castle and even Full Steam Ahead series as spinoffs of the other programmes. While they don't focus on farming, the approach, production team and presenter teams are exactly the same. The ...Pharmacy series was explicitly defined by the BBC and Lion TV as a spinoff of Victorian Farm. Ergo, keep the farming series in their main table and the main section of the article, then list the other shows in a following section, covering them as spinoffs. A reasonable compromise. Arguably, you could even retitle this article as "BBC living history series", even if that is admittedly a bit too broad and vague. I've also noticed that, to date, the programmes involving Goodman listed here on the English Wikipedia come with an infobox simply titled "Ruth Goodman". --ZemplinTemplar (talk) 16:00, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Addressed, I think

Rethink approach?[edit]

It is an excellent idea to create a page that provides information about these wonderful BBC documentaries, but I question the use of the name “Historic Farm Series”. It is limiting, and it is not a title used on the BBC websites, where the results of a search for “historic farm series” yields a great many interesting news items, but few or none of these programmes. I suggest broadening the title to “BBC living history documentaries” or the like.Merry medievalist (talk) 02:05, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that the current name is questionable. Changing it would allow including more information about the shows that are currently listed in the "Related series" section. However, that then leads to the question of what other shows should be included. Currently it seems to be any show that includes Ruth Goodman, Peter Ginn, or Alex Langlands, but I presume that the BBC has at least some other documentaries about living history, so we might need to make the scope beyond that same cast. Agree, and it ought to be 'historical' not 'historic', of course! pgbrown (talk) 10:20, 1 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

An IPv6 address added a list of other historical shows, which I reverted as they're not related to the farm series. The addition has been made again by another IPv6 address. Do we want to add these (and presumably therefore any other historical TV show)? pgbrown (talk) 16:44, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Currently the section has the text Several other shorter series featuring the same people and production staff have been made:. Perhaps we should split it into "other shows by same cast" and "related BBC shows"? Gbear605 (talk) 17:35, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good to me, I'll have a go now.pgbrown (talk) 19:03, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
