Several of the names in red actually had articles in Wikipedia.(Jeremy Bruhl, Terry MacFarlane, Helen Aston, Stanley Baker, Neville Marchant...) While many botanists have yet to have articles written, it makes little sense to me to write Jeremy Bruhl, without first searching for an article, via a full name or IPNI abbreviation. For articles yet to be written, I would advocate using the full name (found by looking up IPNI) or, more safely, using the author abbreviation which is unique. Thus for Karen Wilson, who still has no article, write Karen Louise Wilson or K.L.Wilson. MargaretRDonald (talk) 20:43, 15 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I compiled the list 12 years ago when there were only about three ABLOs with articles (I did check them all for Wikipedia articles back then), and there weren't the resources there are now where I can find the full names or authority control IDs (such as "A. Wilson"?). Conversely, if the botanist's name doesn't need disambiguation, the articles should probably redirect from the common name style to the full or initialed name, such as Jeremy Bruhl to Jeremy James Bruhl. It's certainly worth going through the list again and seeing if it can be linked to new content. I'll set the full list up in Wikidata so that the names of position holders are clearly assigned to the actual individuals and their authority IDs. --Canley (talk) 01:19, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic. (It's remarkable how long it took me to make the few links that I did make..) Thanks, MargaretRDonald (talk) 04:15, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@MargaretRDonald:: OK, here is the Wikidata query of ABLOs with their IPNI abbreviations. Only one abbreviation missing (Jenny Tonkin), and Roberta Cowan was under a different name (Roberta Townsend/R.A.Towns.). --Canley (talk) 03:21, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
