Fate[edit]

According to the SSDI it appears that he died June 1981 Grants Pass, Josephine County, Oregon.[1] Need additional sources. SSDI also indicates 03 May 1915 as birth date. Coverage in media of his death appears to be lacking. --Dual Freq (talk) 12:42, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Research notes: His father died in 1937 born c.1891. Mother's name appears to be Clara Natalie Lorenz. SSDI indicates Clara Wermuth was born 28 November 1894 and died October 1973. Mother and Father were married 19 May 1914 in Cook County, Illinois. Sister's name is listed as Talia in most 1940s papers, most likely named Natalie and born c.1922. Adopted son David Arthur Wermuth appears to have died in 1990 buried Fort Logan National Cemetery, Colorado. --Dual Freq (talk) 02:05, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently Talia is the stage name of his sister, Natalie Wermuth Married Maynard G. Fessenden in September 1947 per a UPI story dated September 18, 1947. Maynard Gay Fessenden died in January 1952 per Associated Press articles dated Jan 2, 1952. --Dual Freq (talk) 03:20, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Natalie was given the gavel used to declare war on Germany in the House of Representatives. She received it from Speaker Sam Rayburn. Her mother was noted to have it in her possession in the 1950s. There is an article Judge nixes "rest home" divorce. Nevada State Journal May 10, 1975 tells about an Arthur Wermuth requesting a divorce from Julia. A judge authorized the divorce April 8, 1975 and Wermuth married Carla Stark two days later then in May revoked the divorce after learning that Julia was in a nursing home. The article doesn't specify that it was the one man army Wermuth, but a 1960s article says he was married to a Julia and he was apparently married to a Carla in 1981 when he died in Oregon. Attempting to list marriages for this war hero is very complicated. Even as early as September 1947 when he was featured in a full page article entitled "Three ladies one man" which detailed the dispute involving the Filipino nurse that claimed she was married to him, his recently divorced wife Jean Wilkins and his new wife Patricia Steele.
