I propose that this page be merged to both Chinook (dog) and Byrd Antarctic Expedition#First Antarctic expedition. I don't believe that Arthur is notable enough to require his own article - even the article on the expedition was merged with Byrd's biography. --TKK ^{bark !} 23:14, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with the argument that this page be merged to both Chinook (dog) and Byrd Antarctic Expedition#First Antarctic expedition. I propose, for reference reasons, that articles referencing individuals, regardless of how modest thier biographies, should be kept editorially intact, and separate from articles regarding work or research they MAY have contributed to. I agree with the second comment - thee is a lot of interst in the history of Antarctic exploration and Walden sounds like an interesting character who deserves his own entry even if brief. Actually I think the Byrd expeditions deserve much more coverage on wikipedia than they currently have.--Jeremy Young (talk) 11:32, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I also would hate to see this merged. Walden's importance goes far beyond his participation in Byrd expeditions. He is probably better known in fact, for his Yukon adventures, his writings, his dogsled racing and dog breeding, his involvement in the resort hotel business in NH's White Mountains, and his work developing hiking trails in the Sandwich Range (one of which is named after him). I strongly disagree with the proposal to merge the Chinook and Walden pages into this section of Byrd's biography. As others have noted, Arthur T. Walden is notable for many other achievements, including his exploration of the Yukon and the establishment of the Chinook Dog Breed. The Chinook Dog Breed also deserves its own page, just as there are pages on Golden Retrievers and other breeds. The Chinook is the state dog of New Hampshire, and is the rarest breed in the world. I disagree with the merger proposal. Arthur T. Walden seems notable enough for his own Wikipedia entry. But the article definitely needs expanding. If somebody is searching the internet to learn about Walden, the article as it's written now is pretty useless. Also how could Walden even be merged into the biography article for Byrd? It's just a short snippet of Byrd's role in the expedition. I'll see if I can expand the Walden article. Libertybison (talk) 06:46, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
