That picture makes him look like a thug. --Mackensen (talk) 13:02, 14 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His name is so beautiful...Archibald Primrose, Lord of all Rosebery! 75.68.6.81 19:42, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have seen claims that he was homosexual - is there any truth to this? Drutt 07:02, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I changed the description of Mentmore from Jacobean to Neo-Renaissance. This brings it in to line with the description in the entry about the house. The house was built in the 1850's. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.9.52.174 (talk) 08:47, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The "Later Years" section lifts much of Primrose's biography in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography wholesale. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.211.23.68 (talk) 18:58, 21 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have modified the main heading on the section on Sport omitting the 'Professional' prefix as this may infer he also financially profited out of playing football as well as his horse racing interests.Cloptonson (talk) 18:22, 2 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

3rd Baron Holland died in 1840, before Rosebery was even born! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.188.98.89 (talk) 20:11, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed the impossible claim. The ref used for it did not specify which Roseberry. DuncanHill (talk) 16:43, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Financed statue of Oliver Cromwell[edit]

I understand that he paid for the statue of Oliver Cromwell in front of the Palace of Westminster. In the Cromwell article, there is a citation, but I think there must be a more authoritative citation.--TGC55 (talk) 16:54, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Non sequiteur[edit]

From the intro section. 'He briefly was in charge of Scottish affairs. This finest performance in office came as chairman of the London County Council in 1889.' What is the connection? Jackiespeel (talk) 21:55, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

'Pressed to marry'?[edit]

He was pressed to marry Marie Fox, the sixteen-year-old adopted daughter of Henry Fox, 4th Baron Holland

Who was doing the pressing? Her own page says: At the age of sixteen, Marie was courted by Archibald Primrose, later 5th Earl of Rosebery, but refused to marry him because she was unwilling to renounce Roman Catholicism. Valetude (talk) 18:33, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Literary interests[edit]

Under that section should be added Rosebery's own contributions. He did, for instance, write a biography of Napoleon, covering the emperor's last years. Steinireyk (talk) 14:03, 20 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

'Outstanding sportsman'[edit]

More like 'sports sponsor', from what we can see here. If there are any cases of his own personal triumphs on the sports field, would need to see them cited. Valetude (talk) 00:56, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Early political career[edit]

re. the missing reference for "To quote his hero Napoleon, Rosebery thought that 'the Master of Egypt is the Master of India'; thus he pursued the policy of expansion in Africa.": He is quoting Napoleon with these words in his monograph "Napoleon: The Last Phase" (p. 199 of the 1900 London ed., link). Unfortunately, it is not apparent there that this would have been his own view, too, or that it prompted him pursuing a policy of expansion in Africa. --Anselm Schmidt (talk) 19:46, 13 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rumours[edit]

Was there anything to Queensbury’s accusation? How was he regarded by his contemporaries? As it is, there is no more than the accusation. 2A00:23C3:E284:900:50F1:C224:AE78:C8C5 (talk) 22:04, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

“Hat!”[edit]

He is supposed to have gone into Lobb’s and just shouted ‘hat!’ whenever he wanted a new hat. P.G.Wodehouse put him into a story, disguised as a New Yorker who went into some big hotel and yelled ‘stamp!’ when he wanted one. Would this be a good addition to the article, with the right references? 2A00:23C3:E284:900:50F1:C224:AE78:C8C5 (talk) 22:01, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
