Most significant?[edit]

The article reads "is considered by many to be the most significant by-election held in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the Troubles". Depending on when you pick as a start date (Mid Ulster by-election, 1969 is before one generally held starting date, but after others), there are no by-elections in Category:By-elections to the UK Parliament in Northern Irish constituencies. So are there by-elections needing articles, or is this sentence a bit pointless? O Fenian (talk) 18:43, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

According to List of United Kingdom by-elections (1950–1979) there were no by-elections in Northern Ireland during the Troubles apart from the Mid Ulster one which can only be included depending on how you date the Troubles in the first place. I assume that list is complete? O Fenian (talk) 18:55, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The list is complete and to be honest I don't see the problem with the sentence, aside from lack of sourcing and I can quickly fix that. It would only be if it said "It was considered at the time to be the most significant by-election held in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the troubles" that it would be problematic. As it is "is considered" and "since the beginning of the troubles" = 1969 to now. Valenciano (talk) 16:13, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
"during" would work better than "since the beginning", to avoid ambiguity. O Fenian (talk) 16:19, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
