Pronunciation?[edit]

Please add a plain English pronunciation. IPA is Greek to most people. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.35.33.162 (talk) 19:44, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Using the IPA to denote pronunciation is standard in accordance with Wikipedia's Manual of Style. You might want to discuss the issue at the guideline's talk page instead. --Paul_012 (talk) 20:27, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Many articles provide a plain English, good-enough pronunciation. I have no interest in how to pronounce Thai accurately.
Few English speakers try to pronounce Van Gogh's name correctly. We use a conventional approximation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.35.33.162 (talk) 19:35, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Joe[edit]

Cinephiles refer to him as "Joe" (a nickname that he, like many with similarly long Thai names, has adopted out of convenience)

Dunno who these 'cinephiles' are, but I've never heard or seen anyone call him Joe. Perhaps it's more specifically regional than this quote suggests, or ...? I see a bunch of half-arsed articles online referencing the 'Joe' name, but that's it. also it's hardly a 'long Thai name', it's four syllables. —rjt (talk) 08:52, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the sentence, as it was unnecessary and not quite encyclopedic in tone. Joe is his nickname, and this is indicated clearly enough in the bold title in the first sentence. --Paul_012 (talk) 18:09, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Add details on Funding, Audience and Reviews[edit]

It would be nice to know who is funding his projects which don't appeal to most people who watch movies. They are more like arts films with a slight touch of politics but not so much as to tell the truth about Thailand when his movie is about Thailand. If you take a look at the reviews on mainstream websites of his movies he gets low ratings because his movies don't touch the senses enough. See the link to Internet Movie Database below. From my experience with his movies and Thai culture, he seems to appeal to a small group of uppity high-society intellectuals mostly in Thailand who make connections from experiences only they have in life. They can see the clothes on the master even though they are not there. They praise this delicious dish that no normal human would enjoy eating. So my point is, who or what is really behind all the praise for this work. Please add that detail because few average people in Thailand or movie watchers from around the globe knows this director or can name one of his movies.
