Interesting Material[edit]

As this material is unreferenced, I have removed it from the article but kept it here as posted by UKiws:

"He then followed his father's interest in flying, becoming a flight lieutenant with the Royal Air Force. Amongst other things, he flew Canberra aircraft from Singapore over targets in Borneo in the so-called "Confrontation" with Indonesia in the early 1960s and was awrded the campaign medal for this work. In 1965 he became a Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI) after completing the RAF Central Flying School (CFS) course at RAF Little Rissington, West of Oxford.

He then served as a QFI at RAF Syerston SW of Newark, Nottinghamshire, instructing suidents on the Jet Provost 2 and 3 aircraft on their way to qualifying for RAF "wings". As an unmarried batchelor he lived in the Officer Mess and was sociable with both students and staff. He was known to have pursuits such as motor racing when not on RAF duty and did not reveal his background as an heir to a Dukedom to his colleagues.

One Monday morning, Angus had disappeared and his colleagues were told that he had been posted North to a Scottish air cadet squadon "to help his family with their estates" - this was the first time that his fellow flying instructors knew of his aristocratic background. He became an instrucor on the Air Squadron, flying from Prestwick airport SSW of Glasgow, near his family estates. He left the Royal Air Force in 1967, qualifying for Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) in the same year and became a test pilot for Scottish Aviation Ltd flying from Prestwick. Scottish Aviation was a company with which his father had been associated.

Later, he became a member of the Queen's Bodyguard for Scotland, an honorary member of the Royal Scottish Pipers Society and Patron of the British Airways Pipe Band. He was a Knight of St John."
