Conservative Monday Club[edit]

An anonymous contributor seems quite determined to include a reference to the UK Conservative Monday Club on this page. HOTR previously removed this (calling it trivia) but it came back anonymously, and I removed it again, also calling it trivia. Now it's back again. I find it odd that this is one event is considered worth mentioning - it hardly seems a significant highlight in the career of a cabinet minister and head of the official opposition. Dr.T was the leader of a major political party and he was in that capacity invited to be the guest of honour at the UK Conservative Monday Club's South Africa Dinner in London. This was a major, possibly controversial, black-tie, packed political event. The Monday Club was a very important group in Britain, with a high profile at the time, which had consistantly supported the continuance of European-dominated rule in South Africa. It would seem to me, therefore, that mention of this event is important not just on this page, but also on the party's page, as well as on the Monday Club's page. I have minimal knowledge of the Monday Club, so if you feel this was important on that club's page, so be it. I still say that this single gala dinner is probably of minimal importance in Treurnicht's biography, or in his party's history. This isn't the social page of a magazine. Provincial leader[edit]

Treurnicht was chosen as leader of the party in the Transvaal by the provisional assembly. To say that he was "chosen over the heads of 12 ministers" implies that it was a cabinet position, and that he was promoted over more senior ministers.
