Merger Proposal[edit]

Alpella is the current club; the article Ülkerspor should be merged into this one as a history section. matt91486 17:59, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it should be merged. Wiki Greek Basketball 16:30, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ülkerspor and Alpella B.K. articles should be separated[edit]

Ülkerspor was a corporate-funded basketball club, which was founded in 1993 by "Ülker Gıda" corporation. The club standed as one of the most successfull basketball clubs in Turkish Basketball League history with 4 league titles and numerous Euroleague attendances in 13 years of its history. In that period, the club was the only real competition against the Turkish basketball titan, "Efes Pilsen S.K."

In year 2006, the club has been merged with "Fenerbahçe" basketball club under a new name of "Fenerbahçe Ülker", due to a sponsorship deal initiated by the Ülker Gıda corporate board. The new team was founded on the key players of "Ülkerspor", and reinforced with a few players from "Fenerbahçe".

Later the board assigned a new name for the empty Ülkerspor team: "Alpella B.K.". They obtained the young players of former "Fenerbahçe" and former "Ülkerspor", and announced this new roster as the new team that shall join the TBL.

So, theorically yes, "Alpella B.K." is the new name of "Ülkerspor". However, it can NEVER be said that "Alpella B.K. has taken over where Ülkerspor left". Ülkerspor is one of the most successfull teams TBL has ever seen, and there must be a separate article for "Ülkerspor", in order to reflect the development of competition in Turkish Basketball League history. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Remytraitor (talkcontribs) 09:44, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
