User:Icar: You keep deleting the sentence "She visited Harvard University twice, first as a Fullbright fellow in the Government Department (1994-1995), and then as Shorenstein fellow at the John F. Kennedy School of Government (1998-1999)", with the comment "rv POV and false claims". Since I had something to do with that sentence being added to the article (I did that, based on info provided by Alina Mungiu-Pippidi's vita, as per ref), I would like to know what exactly you find "POV" or "false" in there. Turgidson: The sentence you quote is the factually correct version of "she studied at Harvard", a false statement I had helped eliminate. I do not contest your sentence but I find it irrelevant. What if she visited Harvard? Big deal... In the version pushed by User:Dahn there are however several wrong things:

  • "she began contributing essays of literary criticism to opinia Studenteasca". The fact that they dealt with "literary criticism" is undocumented, if not plainly false.
  • "she became editor in chief after the Romanian Revolution, in 1991-1992". In fact she became editor-in-chief in 1989, according to her Resume.
  • "the play, which was written in the 1990s, only debuted in Romania in 2005, where it sparked a considerable amount of controversy from Christian religious groups". I gave a more precise date (1993) when the play got the UNITER prize; it is wrong to erase it. The play sparked a considerable amount of controvers from most parts of the Romanian society (and it would have sparked the same amount of controversy in all societies, were it played anywere else), not just "Cristian religious groups" which is a POV formulation.
  • Although factually correct, the formulation of the last sentence in that paragraph is unacceptable in an enciclopaedia, in my opinion. I prefer my version.

Thanks for the response. For an academic to visit an institution such as Harvard for two years is something noteworthy — look at other biographies, and you'll see those sorts of things are routinely mentioned. So I think that fact is worth having the article. Regarding other claims, I don't know enough to have a strong opinion; they would need to be backed up by references, to be taken into account. As for the "Christian religious groups" formulation (with the connotation it implies) — this is not my favorite, either. But the source for the controversy, both here and in the article about the play, cites only reactions by the Romanian Orthodox Church (from Patriarch Teoctist Arăpaşu), and the Roman Catholic Church (from Iaşi). Were there other documented reactions (by non-religious groups) that would justify changing the wording? Turgidson 11:21, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The reaction of Acad. Constantin Balaceanu-Stolnici: "Orice om care are o cultura crestina considera aceasta piesa o rusine" or in translation: "Anybody with a Cristian culture considers this play to be a disgrace (a shame)." About Harvard: If you insist to have it there, make it short, something like "she was a Fulbright fellow at Harvard." Pippidi Caccadi[edit]

Why does this woman have a wikipedia page? What is her value for romanian culture? What good did she to to Romania? I`ll tell you: NONE. There are LOTS of other people who, by their academic performances made their country proud, performances larger than the ones of Pippidi. And they don`t have wiki pages. Let's stop promoting assholes that don`t DO ANYTHING CONSTRUCTIVE, and start promoting people who do. Any moron can start criticizing and destroying like Pippidi, but not everyone can build something.

PS: Why does Victor Babes have such a sh** page, while Pipidi has lines and lines of nonsense? What good did this fat woman do to humanity? --Diurpaneu (talk) 22:03, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
