Move to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?[edit]

Should this article be moved to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with a redirect here, rather than the other way round? His name is listed in full on the Southampton FC website (http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10280~50863,00.html), and all of the transfer speculation I've seen recently has included the "Oxlade". Clicriffhard (talk) 16:36, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As he wears "Chamberlain" on his shirt, that seesm to be the name he wishes to be known by. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 17:27, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Just a point. I was wtching Sky Sports news today and the presenter said 'Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain'.

Speculation[edit]

Hi,

As every football fan, or at least the ones editing this article (Alex Chamberlain), should know there's been a lot of speculation around Alex. Especially with Arsenal and a bit with Manchester United. I think this should be mentioned. Don't you? Thought's on this matter please, Thanks, pbl1998--Pbl1998 (talk) 17:07, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Properly written and sourced is fine. Most of the edits made recently have been far from that - Wikipedia is not a news service or gossip column, it is an encyclopedia. Please never forget that. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 17:10, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Yes, Yes I know that. This is major speculation. We should mention it as speculation. It's not gossip. If you like I will try to source this. You do not have to go far. Simply type Alex Chamberlain into Google and you will find absolutely hundereds of websites on this matter. I will put a few of the good ones!

Thanks, pbl1998--Pbl1998 (talk) 17:58, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Main Picture[edit]

I thin the page could do with a main picture. As I'm not that good at doing pictures could somebody please upload one. One will be pretty easy to find. Anybody that can tell me how to put a picture on properly please tell me.

Thanks, pbl1998--Pbl1998 (talk) 17:58, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Image Added[edit]

Edit request from 122.163.2.232, 8 August 2011[edit]

Alex Chamberlain has joined ARSENAL F.C. from Southampton FC.

122.163.2.232 (talk) 18:29, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, and this has already been reflected in the article. Mattythewhite (talk) 18:39, 8 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Why is he called Oxlade-Chamberlain, and not just Chamberlain?--Aa2-2004 (talk) 09:19, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps he has the surnames of both his parents in his surname? His father was Chamberlain so I'd assume his mother was Oxlade. Or are you referring to what he's commonly known as/what the article is called? Mattythewhite (talk) 14:53, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No,I'm not referring to what the article is called. I am just confused why is surname is Oxlade-Chamberlain, when is father simply used Chamberlain? I was guessing it was an adoptive father situation, a la Wright-Philips.--Aa2-2004 (talk) 15:37, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life[edit]

Although his father, Mark, played more games for Portsmouth than any other club, his England caps were earned while at Stoke. Shouldn't article therefore say his father played for Stoke and England? LenF54 (talk) 14:47, 13 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

the article should als omention that his mother is a white British. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.8.21.168 (talk) 09:55, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it relevant? -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 10:02, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

it's relev=nt since this is a part of his personal life. what a stupid question !

Unless you can add a reliable source confirming his mother's details, your edits are no better than guesswork. And why this obsession with his racial origin? -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 20:33, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2013-14 FA Cup[edit]

Why is it open to suggestion that he doesn't have a winner's medal just because he was out of the final due to injury? He assisted goals, he scored, he won a penalty - therefore he was an integral part of that year's FA Cup campaign. Of course he has a medal. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.38.37.128 (talk) 16:09, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Real height 175 cm[edit]

If you look at the pics and how he looks, 180 cm looks like a joke. He is 175 cm tops--92.59.102.204 (talk) 17:06, 25 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

He claims 5'9.25 as his height[edit]

we should trust the personal claim, this is the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-V1L97xJ9g

Personal life[edit]

Wiki article mentions in Personal life that he grew up a Chelsea fan, however the footnote then directs you to an article that makes no reference to the team he grew up supporting. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.239.193.244 (talk) 11:00, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I just read it and it is pretty clear. The header says but Southampton wonderkid Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain favours move to champions Chelsea and the article also states Sportsmail understands a move to Stamford Bridge — the club he supported as a boy — is Chamberlain’s preference. What we could discuss is if it is a reliable source or not. Qed237 (talk) 11:13, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Major Assists[edit]

I think that the Assist and Man Of The Match Award against Manchester City in the FA Cup Semifinal in 2017 MUST be included as it was important to the game. How is that 'Trivial information'?134.83.3.85 (talk) 15:49, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

please allow my edits in, and protect them from being removed[edit]

I've had enough of my attempts to put his FA CUP SEMI FINAL Assist and Man of the Match award being removed and classified as trivial data. It was a very important moment in his career.Elaych22 (talk) 13:39, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

up to date picture[edit]

I would like an up-to-date picture of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain since he changed his haircut in 2015, so that his famous hairstyle from since 2016 can be displayed.Elaych22 (talk) 11:10, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Southampton honour[edit]

The citation doesn't cover him ever receiving a medal, nor do I find anything online, it's rare to get a runner up medal in the league. Shouldn't it be removed? Govvy (talk) 14:04, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Whether he received a medal or not, I believe this is notable as an honour on account of it resulting in promotion for his team. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:42, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mattythewhite:, I thought we agreed a while back that runner up in leagues isn't an honour. As for that citation it doesn't work at all as Soccerway haven't put it down in his honours list. Govvy (talk) 16:03, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I could be wrong, but I don't think there is solid consensus on this either way.
You're right that Soccerway haven't listed it as an honour, which is a wonder considering they are notoriously lenient with what they include as an honour. For example, they include the 2009−10 Football League Trophy, even though Oxlade-Chamberlain wasn't involved in any matchday squads.
When referencing league promotions (whether it be first-place, second-place promotion etc), I usually cite Soccerbase for the league table and for the player's appearances, for players who made at least 10 appearances. For example, see the Sheffield United honour at Billy Sharp#Honours. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 16:32, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Champions League[edit]

Chamberlain didn't make one single Champions League game appearance in the 2018-2019 season. Removing the honor would obviously be correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.184.102.163 (talk) 13:45, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Why would it? He received a medal. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:04, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Why would it?? Because he didn't play. It doesn't matter if the club internally gives him a medal, he wasn't a part of the competition and doesn't get the honor on his record. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.184.102.163 (talk) 15:09, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's an interesting opinion, although I don't think it's going to garner much support. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:33, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Current height (1.80m / 5’11) is incorrect[edit]

He has claimed his height as 5’9.5 and is listed at 1.75m on multiple sources. The current height listing is incorrect. Please allow this to be changed. Lfc777 edit (talk) 15:51, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The English FA and the National Football Teams site both says his height is 5'11 (i.e. 1.80m) whereas Soccerbase says 1.83m. The linked source given currently says what Lfc777 said last year which was modified by an anonymous user today. Some sources must be wrong, whether it's Soccerbase, the two links I posted here or the linked source given while this player is on their databases. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:05, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also I was not sure if the worldfootball.net site was reliable or not but the Premier League website is used more as a reference so I used that source instead which gives 1.80m also. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 22:22, 26 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

AOC[edit]

Is Chamberlain frequently referred to as AOC? I think if he is linked to by the AOC DAB page then there should be a mention (even if a mere parenthetical) in this article. Sources for this abbreviation seem weak, but do exist. — HTGS (talk) 20:17, 23 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

2021-22 FA Cup medal[edit]

People keep adding this honour to his list without a source (or try to use a source that does not mention him). He did not play in the final,[1] and after the game Jurgen Klopp complained that there were not enough medals to hand out to all the players / support staff.[2] Whilst this source is somewhat tabloidy, and it does not specifically state that Oxlade-Chamberlain did not get a medal, it does mention him as an example of someone who may miss out. I'd say this means a reliable source is needed that clearly states that he got such a medal. Spike 'em (talk) 15:24, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
