One former Leeds player did leave for Manchester United when Leeds were actual challengers for the title (say, 4-5 years ago?), though I've forgotten who, and Leeds supporters criticised him for leaving for a 'rival', just as if, say, Francesc Fabregas left for Manchester United. -; Leeds is much more of a rival to Manchester United than Arsenal. There is geographic and historical rivalry between Leeds and United. Much like United and Liverpool. Arsenal have only recently come into 'rivalry' with United and only because of increased success... not history.

Does anyone have a better image than the current one, showing him bleeding from the head?

Leeds United Centre of Excellence[edit]

Youth systems in English football have changed significantly since Smith first joined Leeds. Technically, the Leeds centre of excellence no longer exists, as Leeds now have an Academy system (for more information on the introduction of Academies, see the second half of [1]). Probably the best place to find out about the Leeds youth system is in Leeds United match programmes and club publications. Other than anything which is on the Leeds website, it is likely to be very difficult to find relevant information specific to the Leeds youth system online. Is it just me or?[edit]

Does this page seem very biased. I mean "He has played centre-forward for most of his pathetic career." or "2001 - never again England"

or "Smith also caused controversy in the 2004 season when, in a League Cup game against Manchester United, he threw a bottle in the crowd after it was thrown on the field, incidentally hitting his grandma who he was sleeping with at the time. This incident landed Smith in hot water with his club and the FA."--Hell, where's the citation on that?

I have read various articles about Al Smith that list him as being born either in Rothwell (in Lds) or Wakefield (a neighbouring city). To my knowledge (I live in Lds and have lived previously in both Rothwell and Wakey) I think the maternity hospital on Barnsley Road in Wakey would have been the nearest maternity hospital to Rthwll at the time, but of course, I may be wrong and he may have been born at home or something! The FA website (http://www.thefa.com/England/SeniorTeam/Archive/?pf=p&i=5598&ap=p&searchname=Smi) lists him as being born in Lds, so I reckon Rthwll is the best one to go for.Luke-Samual Ezekiel Cullen 20:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
