Slashes[edit]

@FlyIndian14: Hi there, re: this, it is a huge problem in Indian articles when people format content with slashes as you did, specifically the content reading:

Siddharth Nigam as Aladdin (Season 1 and 2)/Shehzada-e-Turkistan, Shehzada Aladdin (Season 3)

Slashes are ambiguous and sloppy, and in most cases they make it very difficult to figure out what is being said. We write for a global audience, not just for Indians who are fans of the series, and since we are trying to offer Wikipedia as an educational resource, we want people studying this show for academic reasons to understand the show. I can tell you that as someone who has never seen this show, I don't know why there are three names listed here. Obviously Aladdin is the main character, but is "Shehzada-e-Turkistan" a different character played by Nigam? Is "Shehzada Aladdin" a totally unique character? Are these just nicknames the character acquires after certain plot points? How is anyone unfamiliar with the series or with Indian culture supposed to understand this? Maybe a better approach (and I'm totally guessing, because I've never seen this show) is something like:

Siddharth Nigam as Aladdin. At the end of the second season, Aladdin marries Yasmine and acquires his new title, Shehzada (the king's son). Beginning with the third season, Aladdin is part of the royal family, and the people of Turkistan refer to him as Shehzada-e-Turkistan and Shehzada Aladdin.

Assuming my facts are correct, do you see how that's way clearer than slashes and non-English words? You really should take a look at MOS:TV if you plan to edit articles, and maybe even see List of Millennium characters so you have a better idea of what a high quality cast list is supposed to look like. The oversimplification of information and excessive use of parentheticals and super-brief phrasing is not, ultimately, very useful. @Cyphoidbomb:, I understand you approach but in this show the boy Aladdin was a character in Seasons 1 and 2 as he was a simple man of Baghdad but at the end of Season 2 he died along with Sultana Yasmine.

In season 3, he is born as Shehzada-e-Turkistan which is more like a post and his name is Shehzada Aladdin.

So I used a slash to separate the two persons played by a single actor i.e Siddharth Nigam. Thanks and regards, FlyIndian14 (talk) 16:48, 1 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@FlyIndian14: You did a fairly good job of expressing that, so why can't that go into the article so that others know what the details are? Slashes, as I'm trying to communicate, don't tell anybody anything.

Siddharth Nigam as Aladdin. Aladdin dies at the end of the second season. At the beginning of the third season, he is reborn as Shehzada Aladdin (the King's son Aladdin), and is known throughout Turkistan as Shehzada-e-Turkistan.

Did I get the details correct? Do you agree that this communicates more information to a reader than "Aladdin/Shehzada Aladdin/Shehzada-e-Turkistan"? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:06, 2 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Slashes and character names[edit]

@SimplyRai: Your efforts here are appreciated, but the introductory parts of the character descriptions feel very overloaded with names and parentheticals:

Aladdin/Kala Chor of Baghdad (Season 1) / Shaudagar(Merchant) Ali (Fake identity) (season 2) / Shehzada-e-Turkistaan, Shehzada Aladdin (Season 3)

That's just far too much to process before we even get to the character description. Typically in character descriptions we would indicate the most common name the character was known by, which seems to be Aladdin. Then, if something about their identity changes, we can clarify that elsewhere in the paragraph. There is no need to lump every name into one line. I've attempted to fix his description in this edit, which presents most of the same information, but without the clutter. This is more akin to what the community prefers. I'm not familiar with this series, so I don't want to make guesses about the character descriptions. Is there any way you can fix the other character descriptions? Yasmine's has the same problem:

Shehzadi Yasmine / Sanah (Fake identity) (Season 1) / Sultana-e-Baghdad, Sultana Yasmine (Season 2)
