Information from Japanese wiki article[edit]

Here is a description of what the Japanese article contains. I am not keen on adding it to the article as it is all unsourced. But hopefully it will help with research.

  • Lead

He is described as a Count/Earl as a member of a Kazoku. He sat in the House of Peers (Japan) and is known as the "last school friend of the Showa Emperor". Served as 7th National President of the Japan Boy Scout Federation.

  • Timeline
    • 1901 - Born in the Minami neighbourhood of Takanawa, Minato, Tokyo as a "legitimate grandson" of Chiaki Watanabe ja:渡辺千秋, a Count/Earl who held Senior Second Rank in the Japanese court. I think "legitimate grandson" means he was the son of Chiaki's eldest son, Chiharu.
    • 1918 - succeeded to the title of Hakushaku (Count/Earl).
    • 1928 - Introduced to the boy scout movement by Michiharu Mishima and Saburō Matsukata, who were his seniors at the Gakushuin (ja:学習院). Appointed as a director of the Tokyo Boy Scout Federation.
    • 1934 - Was leader of the Japanese delegation to the Australian Jamboree held outside of Melbourne.
    • 1936 - Became a director of the Japanese Boy Scout Federation.
    • 1938 - Traveled through Europe (Italy, France, England Germany) to investigate social science education on behalf of the Ministry of Education. Remained in Berlin after the rest of the group returned to Japan, staying there until June the following year, mainly investigating the Hitler Youth. After returning to Japan, served in roles including secretary to the Minister of Finance and secretary to the president of the Cabinet Planning Board ja:企画院.
    • 1943 - was elected to the House of Peers.
    • 1946 - resigned from the House and returned his title.
    • 1967 - appointed commissioner of the Japan Boy Scouts.
    • 1969 - received the Medal with blue ribbon
    • 1973 - appointed to the World Scout Committee.
    • 1974 - appointed national president of the Japan Boy Scouts (until 2003).
    • 2005, died of old age on July 23 at his home in Tokyo, aged 103.
  • Family
    • As well as Chiaki Watanabe, his other grandfather was Ōyama Iwao. Watanabe Makoto, who served as Akihito's chamberlain, was one of his children.
    • His niece Akiko Kisano wrote a biography about him "昭和天皇最後の御学友 ある華族の一世紀" in 2000.

That's basically everything from the Japanese wiki. Sources for a lot of those, like the House of Peers and honour medal, shouldn't be too difficult to find. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 04:32, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
