Dyana Williams/Secondary Sources[edit]

For anyone with time to improve this article. The co-founders of Black Music Month are Dyana Williams and Kenny Gamble. There is plenty of secondary source material about Williams and Gamble (Pitrchfork, Essence, TheGrio, etc.). This article from NBC News explains that Carter didn't actually sign House Concurrent Bill 509 (which Williams co-authored) and that Williams worked through the Clinton presidency to get it officially signed https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/philadelphia-music-activist-godmother-black-music-month-n381201 Nyeboah (talk) 20:34, 23 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Proposing rename of article[edit]

Hi, based on the work that @Smaxine1 did on the history of the (re-naming) of this observance, shall we move the article's name to Black Music Month, with a redirect from African-American Music Appreciation Month and Black Music Appreciation Month? Hi @Khascall, it seems that Black Music Month is also more commonly used. There is already a Black Music Month page on Wikipedia that redirects here; but it does seem appropriate to make the switch, I'm just not sure how.

And thanks for these edits, @Smaxine1. I hadn't realized there were official proclamations around the name change.
