Ambiguous relationship[edit]

Hello,

Just as a note, I hesitated at developing the subject of the relationship between the girls but I decided against as I have not read much precisions on the Internet, so that would be original work. The director was attending the movie projection I went to but there was no Q&A and anyway I had not thought too much about it by the end of the movie.

To be clear, if someone wants to write on it, it is hinted that the police officer did caress intimately the 14yo girl: you can see her caress her leg (I think I remember that she drank before, so was probably disinhibited), and later the girl shows during her questioning that she was caressed on the leg, and then further more "down there". During the police questioning, the officer said that she was only intending to help the girl originally (movie seen in French, the wording in English might differ), which implies that she went beyond what she originally planned. Also, at the beginning, the fact that she avoids physical contact with the girl and that she is disturbed when the girl throws herself at her in the bath might show that she is physically aware of the girl.

All this is subject to interpretation which is why it is only ambiguous, as the director herself called it. The girl might have lied as she said she did (although it is strange that she does begin by the leg as the officer did, and she is not shown lying on anything else), the wording is ambiguous enough to allow one to think that the officer might have only meant that she only meant good and was not expecting her behavior to be interpreted like this, and she might have been embarrassed to receive love as she was mainly a loner.

It would be reasonable to do an analysis section of the movie as it covers a lot of themes, including this one, but one would have to find references for it and I don't have the time. 90.24.210.82 (talk) 09:54, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
