a) this is not a motorway. b) should be part of the A38 article. Please merge back into A38. Leonig Mig 1 July 2005 15:13 (UTC)

Of course this is a Motorway (See List_of_motorways_in_the_United_Kingdom#Upgraded_A-road_designations for similar motorways, named in series). Why on earth is it listed for speedy deletion? Andy Mabbett 1 July 2005 15:25 (UTC)
You seem to think that articles should all be split up into the smallest possible units. I disagree with that. Therefore I hold up all the splitting you are doing for the community to examine. Leonig Mig 1 July 2005 16:11 (UTC)

Junctions...[edit]

Are the names not the wrong way round, or am I misinterpreting the table...

I thought we have Gravelly Hill Interchange at the top end, with the junction of the M6.

Then next is Park Circus (having slips away from Birmingham only)

Then next south is Dartmouth Circus, at this point the motorway becoming the A38...

I'll have a look at my atlas tonight and check this out. I did get a bit confused with this one it has to be said... Regan123 11:41, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
According to this Multimap the table is correct (north is at the top) unless I misunderstood your question? Regan123 20:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure the table is correct, as it implies that Dartmouth Circus is first, travelling south, then Park Circus. I think.... C2r 22:26, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Looking back through the article history I did copy these forward incorrectly when I added the table. I have corrected the entries and added links to List of Road Junctions in the United Kingdom. Thanks for pointing it out. Regan123 22:44, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Junctions table - continuation northwards[edit]

"Road continues to Erdington as A5127" and "Lichfield, Tamworth A38", the article currently states. Surely this should be "Road continues to Lichfield and Tamworth as A38" and "Erdington A5127"?

Given that the motorway is the A38(M), one would expect the natural continuation to the A38 (Tyburn Road). DWaterson 22:10, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Generally I would agree, but in this case, the map shows the road as a turn off to stay on the A38 and the mainline continues as the A5127. Nice and confusing which is why I did this way. If it's not correct as to what is on the ground, then it needs changing, but it is a while since I drove that way, so I can't add any more. --Regan123 22:40, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You are quite correct, that is the way it is laid out on the ground. Nevertheless, I wonder if this is just a quirk of the road layout and traffic flow requirements, rather than an intentional change to the route numbering scheme? DWaterson 19:48, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is laid out this way because the A5127 is the former A38 before being rerouted to its current route Craig449 23:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ansells[edit]

The motorway is curved in Aston to avoid an Ansells brewery. The brewery was demolished before the road was finished - can someone confirm this? The brewery closed in 1981 [1]. Does this perhaps refer to part of the building which closed earlier?

Maps of the Aston Expressway reveal no unusual curves. There are only two, gentle curves in the whole thing, one at Park Circus and another at Witton Lane/Queens Road. They could be better explained by the position of the Gravelly Hill Interchange - if the curves weren't there, the Aston Expressway would meet the M6 several hundred metres north west of Gravelly Hill after slicing through Aston Park and shaving the corner off the carpark at Villa Park. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.254.132 (talk) 12:50, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Google maps - 7 lanes in use[edit]

Google maps seems to have the A38(M) labelled as as the A5127 - it also seems to show all 7 lanes in use for traffic (ie no closed separation lane) - have the rules on the road changed to allow 7 lane operation? I couldn't find any recent legislation for this, and I think normally at the very least an order would need to be made as an SI? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.56.53.238 (talk) 03:44, 4 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
