Notability of mid-October storm complex

@Elijahandskip and 170.24.150.113: The recent system that brought snow mainly to the upper peninsula of Michigan is not notable enough for inclusion in this article. Similar events occur quite frequently in this region and are generally low-impact, including this one. We generally do not include low-impact systems in winter articles, to prevent them from being bloated with too many events. Occasionally, certain systems do not cause great impacts but do break certain records, and sometimes those are included as well. Upper Michigan Winter Storm and US Cold Wave (October 17-20)

Recently, there has been a disagreement between editors about the notability of the Upper Michigan “significant early season winter storm” (NWS words) and the recent cold wave, that made it all the way down to Florida setting record lows. “Super record lows” per Ryan Maue, the former chief of NOAA. • I Support including this in the article for two reasons. One, the record cold temperatures went across the entire central and eastern US. Two, the NWS was forecasting for 8-12 inches of snow with, what they called, a “significant early season winter storm” and the Weather Prediction Center confirmed 12-18 inches of snowfall was observed in places[1], meaning it was more than forecasted snowfall in what the NWS called a significant winter storm. While snow in Michigan is normal for this time of year, the fact NWS use the words “significant winter storm” means it should be included in the article. • Strongly Oppose – While what Elijahandskip has brought up is true, this system lacked notable, widespread impacts. Snow in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is nothing new and systems of similar magnitude to this one occur quite frequently and are not included in winter articles. Additionally, the aforementioned editor has failed to present a variety of reliable sources in support of their argument, and social media posts are not enough. The National Weather Service forecasting a "significant early season winter storm" in advance has little to no effect on the actual impacts from the system when it does occur. Also, a system slightly outperforming its snow forecast on its own is not a sufficient reason to include it; this occurs quite frequently as well. ~ 🌀HurricaneCovid🌀 21:18, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

• Oppose – At first, I thought of adding the event to the article but what HurricaneCovid made me change my mind, he made a very good point. It is somewhat typical for winter storms to occur in the U.P. this time of year, also it wasn't that widespread say if it affected the whole Great Lakes or Midwest region with snow then it might've been more notable to include it, but it was just in that local area but don't get wrong Elijahandskip made a good point also with the record cold temperatures though, but I would have to mostly agree with HurricaneCovid with this one. • New Information: NOAA NCEI called this an “early season winter storm” and confirms it did bring “record-breaking snowfall”. At this point, NOAA plans to fully document this down as a record-breaking winter storm, so we should really include it. • I'm changing my opinion to Neutral now since now NOAA is planning to fully document this storm due to it being "record breaking" that could warrant for this storm to be added to the "Events" section, but at the same time it only affected a small region though (mainly just the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) doesn't seem too notable, unlike the Mid-November Blizzard which affected a bigger region (South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin), so I'm 50/50 about it, maybe if we add more sources I will probably be swayed to saying Support. We don't use The Weather Channel's Winter Storm Naming system on Wikipedia

@97.79.222.14 I took this to the talk page to tell you we do not use The Weather Channel's naming scheme on Wikipedia due to it being unofficial and NOAA which is the official weather and atmospheric administration doesn't recognize it. Relevancy of Seasonal Snowfall Map

In previous years, articles usually have an image at the beginning of the article that shows the seasonal snowfall or another significant piece of information. I see that the image, last updated by me, was removed on 11/08/22. I Support bringing back the image, updated to the most recently available data. Can someone PLEASE make a section for the mid-November storm around Buffalo??? It’s ridiculous we don’t have a section with all the stuff in Buffalo. Most weather outlooks and the temperature anomaly patterns strongly hint a bitterly cold arctic cold snap to come. Record low temperatures are to be expected to be set.
