Banbury Ruscote[edit]

Important to note that Labour are apparently contesting one of the results (as per tweet from Layla Moran: https://mobile.twitter.com/LaylaMoran/status/1391435093537959941). Most likely in Benson & Cholsey, where CON only won by 20 votes (https://mycouncil.oxfordshire.gov.uk/mgElectionAreaResults.aspx?ID=211). Important to view outcome of this and possible recount, because it might result in LD having the plurality of seats and not CON. --NeorxenoSwang (talk) 17:38, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Update from here (https://mobile.twitter.com/ElectionMapsUK/status/1391465036091215882) it seems that the Banbury Ruscote division votes were swapped around and read incorrectly by the electing officer. Seat should have been LAB not CON. Will add message to this on the main page --NeorxenoSwang (talk) 19:26, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I make the table at the top read as follows,

Party Seats Gains Losses Net Change
Conservative 21 2 11 -9
Liberal Democrats 21 7 - 7
Labour 16 2 1 1
Independent 1 - 2 -2
HRG 1 - - -

Any one want to disagree? DaveLevy (talk) 23:02, 10 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DaveLevy: Yes, I disagree. For a start, you forgot the Greens. Secondly, you are presuming the outcome of a legal challenge, and to do that is sub judice. Once the returning officer has signed and declared the result for a division (which for Banbury Ruscote occurred at approximately 11:25, 9 May 2021), that is the legally-binding outcome of the election. We should not be altering the official results to suit unproven opinions of what the correct result should have been. Unless the legal challenge is successful (and I'm not saying that it won't be), the Conservative candidate won Banbury Ruscote, with Labour second (see Election results for Banbury Ruscote). This gives Conservative 22, Lib-Dem 21, Labour 15, Green 3, HRG 1, Ind 1 (see OCC summary). We might not agree with that, but we must accept it until the courts have overruled the result that was declared. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 16:17, 11 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
About the Greens ... oops, that's why I asked for a QA and I take your point on the electoral court. DaveLevy (talk) 10:00, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I just saw on BBC TV news that there is to be a three-way coalition: Lib-Dem, Labour and Green, with Cllr Liz Leffman (Lib-Dem, Charlbury and Wychwood) as the new council leader, replacing Ian Hudspeth. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 17:45, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The High Court has upheld Labour's challenge. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:59, 12 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
