Team Names[edit]

Just a heads up, while ARTICLE names avoid title sponsors as much as possible (think Hindmarsh Stadium instead of Coopers Stadium), the LINKS shown on the page are generally shown as the name its currently known as (this is why Docklands Stadium on each football article will show Colonial Stadium, Telstra Dome and now Marvel Stadium).

In short, sponsor names aren’t used for article names wherever possible, but links with the sponsor names are. - J man708 (talk) 09:19, 17 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not in motorsport they aren't, particularly Australian motorsport. Triple Eight Race Engineering have never been referred to as "Red Bull Racing Australia", "Team Vodafone" or "Team Betta Electrical" on Wikipedia. DJR Team Penske are not currently labelled "Shell V-Power Racing" in the 2019 Supercars Championship article. The IP you are 'warring' with is correct, commercial names are not used where possible. Sponsorship names tend not to be used in Australian motorsport articles, e.g. 2019 Supercars Championship, for a number of reasons:
  • Multiple car teams often run with multiple title sponsors, e.g. Garry Rogers Motorsport and Kelly Racing each have TCR four entries with four different naming rights sponsors.
  • Some teams operate rotating sponsorship models, i.e. a different title sponsor at each event, e.g. Brad Jones Racing’s #8 entry in the 2019 Supercars Championship.[1][2][3]
  • Some title sponsors over time are the naming rights sponsors of multiple teams, e.g. Supercheap Auto Racing and Wilson Security Racing have each been the title sponsor of at least six different Supercar teams, thus year-on-year it gets confusing, hence why generic names are used. Then why are the BTCC articles any different? - J man708 (talk) 08:08, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Can't we use "Team Tradie" for Bright's entry as it is not a sponsor name and was mentioned as the entrant in the original announcement? SchueyFan (talk) 08:55, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Both cars are run by Matt Stone Racing, so if Britek doesn't exist anymore (which is what Crick's implying) they should both appear as part of MSR. Holdenman05 (talk) 08:58, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
One feasable solution for teams entered under different banners, but are run under single entity, is to include both names in the collumn, but include footnote tag similar to a method used in Blancpain GT Series and 24H Series season articles. Ivaneurope (talk) 10:46, 18 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Just to confirm, while Britek Motorsport Pty Ltd is still a registered entity, it has not been registered for GST purposes since 2012,[4] so effectively dormant. The only Britek asset remaining is one Supercars Racing Entitlements Contract that is leased to Matt Stone Racing. I think from the cites, Bright owns the VWs and has sub-contracted the preparation to MSR. Crick12 (talk) 06:06, 20 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
