I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of United States gubernatorial elections, 2018's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 06:00, 10 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Age?[edit]

Is it really important how old potential candidates or incumbents will be on election day? --Jerchel (talk) 10:31, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say it's only relevant if they are currently younger than the constitutionally required age in whichever state they're running. Moonboy54 (talk) 14:34, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but that's not the case with incumbents. --Jerchel (talk) 17:51, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New Hampshire[edit]

New Hampshire should be under both Unknown incumbent and incumbent retiring/term-limited because current incumbent Maggie Hassan is running for the U. S. Senate.--Bigpoliticsfan (talk) 16:30, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hassan is not the incumbent for the 2018 election; her successor is. Orser67 (talk) 19:44, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oregon, Vermont & New Hampshire[edit]

Oregon went Democrat, while Vermont & New Hampshire have gone Republican, in 2016. GoodDay (talk) 21:07, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Restored content[edit]

I restored the names of numerous potential candidates. We've included them in the past several gubernatorial and senate election articles, and those articles remained at a manageable size. Also note that such inclusion is supported (although not mandated) by WP:Crystalball, which states "Predictions, speculation, forecasts and theories stated by reliable, expert sources or recognized entities in a field may be included" Orser67 (talk) 19:31, 9 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Change the map to reflect the fact that Gov. Malloy is not running for re-election.[edit]

Could someone change the map to show that Gov. Dan Malloy of Connecticut is not running again? (retiring as the map puts it.) Crashguy42 (talk) 05:52, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Done. SPQRobin (talk) 11:19, 17 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DC Mayoral Election in 2018[edit]

I was wondering if we should include the Mayoral election for DC in this, since it is the election to the executive branch over a Federal District. The election would be in 2018. It's a city, though, but it is a Federal District, but it's for a Mayor and not a Governor.

Anyone got thoughts on whether this election should be included on this page?

See Washington, D.C. mayoral election, 2018

Thanks,

Because no one responded, I took action on this. Would anyone like to offer feedback in support or opposition?

Thanks!

TenorTwelve (talk) 21:25, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

IMO the DC mayoral election could be a see also link but shouldn't be mentioned here beyond that, it isn't a gubernatorial election. Further, DC city government only exists at the pleasure of Congress. 331dot (talk) 23:48, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

US Virgin Islands Comments[edit]

So I added the candidates to the US Virgin Islands section; I have a few comments I want to add as I was researching. Warren Mosler (I)[1] has announced he will run.[2] However, he will not start campaigning until 2018, unlike the other candidates,[3] and I wasn't sure whether he should be included on the list yet or not.

Carlton Dowe and Moleto Smith are potential candidates.[4] TenorTwelve (talk) 05:37, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I put in Warren Mosler but put in two citations to indicate he is not campaigning until 2018. Is that valid logic? Does that come across as POV? Or give undue weight? TenorTwelve (talk) 05:56, 10 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shading for Indp. Gov. of Alaska - blue, yellow, or other[edit]

There has been a debate about which color to shade the Indp. Gov. of Alaska in the political projections sections. I edited the color to change from Blue to Yellow as yellow is the color for independents. He is also a Republican who lost the primary and ran as an Indp. so I think it's very misleading to shade it blue. I believe it should be shaded yellow and if not yellow gray and if not gray red before it's shaded blue. Another user reverted it citing the Lt. Gov was a Dem. In my opinion, the Gov takes precedent over the Lt. Gov. Also, blue is misleading regardless and misleading information should not be included. Since this is an election prediction, the prediction itself must also be taken into account. Unfortunately, details of the Rothenberg prediction are for paid subscribers only. So we cannot tell in more detail what the predictor expects. For example, the gov could choose to run as a Republican in the next election. The Lt.Gov. could not be chosen as his running mate, or the Lt. Gov. could choose not to run.--Ldurkin (talk) 19:18, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, it should definitely be shaded yellow. Walker ran as an independent, has governed as an independent, and has given no indication that he will seek either party's nomination in 2018. Orser67 (talk) 20:06, 8 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lists[edit]

When I'm on this page and want to look up a particular race, I check the table of contents and click down to what I want. The trouble is, if I don't know what party the incumbent is and whether they're eligible for reelection, I have to look at four separate lists, which is a little too much effort. We don't split the list in the Senate or House elections articles by party. It's alphabetical by state, the way this should be. All in favor? counter-proposals? --ShorinBJ (talk) 19:24, 13 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Leader photos[edit]

While governors don't have leaders like senators and representatives do, it's been tradition since 2001 to include the heads of the Republican Governors Association and Democratic Governors Association. Seems like a consensus should be reached before breaking such precedent. Woko Sapien (talk) 20:56, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • There is no leadership by these governors. These thirty-eight races are unrelated and are therefore leaderless. And even if they were somehow leaders, the Governors Associations are organizations that do not represent their politics, their elections, or their actions so it is a poor stand-in for a leadership election regarding this article. —GoldRingChip 13:09, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's more than fair. My concern is about consistent formatting throughout all gubernatorial election articles. I have no problem going back and retooling all those infoboxes to not have leadership photos, but I want to make sure there's a broad enough consensus before doing that. Woko Sapien (talk) 17:37, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • From the Republican Governors Association website - "The RGA helps elect Republicans to governorships throughout the nation."
  • From the Democratic Governors Association website - "The Democratic Governor's Association is an independent voluntary political organization to support Democratic governors and candidates across the nation."

Sooooo, yes they do represent their politics, their elections, etc. Hobbamock (talk) 18:20, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This was very unclear to me why they were there and I had to come to the talk section to figure it out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:602:9C01:32EC:F0DD:8D05:CD28:237D (talk) 07:12, 15 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article is not consistent[edit]

In Election Prediction section, article says Florida is determined and Georgia is TBD. In Race summary section, Florida is awaiting final count and Georgia is determined. 182.172.20.202 (talk) 01:01, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Florida gubernatorial election, 2018 currently has TBD, while other related articles to the Florida campaign, says DeSantis has won. GoodDay (talk) 01:13, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Crowding of Infoboxes[edit]

There is crowding of the info box, combining state and territorial governships in a way that violates the Wikipedia consensus and is confusing to the reader PalmerTheGolfer (talk) 02:31, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

Under the infobox, when it shows seats gained and seats lost, it only shows states. Should it show territories as well? --Numberguy6 (talk) 23:37, 25 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Connecticut Margin Error[edit]

The Close Races section says Connecticut was decided by 2.2%, but 49.4%-46.2% from the state-by-state results is 3.2%. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EvanJ35 (talkcontribs) 15:12, 16 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
