Infobox hurricane current

Can anyone add the 'Infobox Hurricane current' for our Tropical Storm Lingling, just like last year's season. It's important right? If forgot what it is, it includes the location, winds, pressure and others to the current storm. Thanks.Typhoon2013 (talk) 04:59, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

It isnt important to have it setup since we are not a warning centre.Jason Rees (talk) 16:46, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Peipah

Why the remmants of Peipah are considered as another tropical depression? References from JMA? PAGASA still considered as Domeng until its fully dissipation. -- Byralaal - (talk!) 17:07, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

According to the JMA's BT which came out in the last few days Peipah dissipated on April 8, besides which none of the agencies called the secondary tropical depression "a tropical depression + Pepiah". So the options imo are to split into two tropical depressions or too ignore the secondary tropical depression.Jason Rees (talk) 18:46, 21 May 2014 (UTC)

Bad habits

I found that so many people try to participate the season article, but they may cause issues because of many bad habits.

  • Improper grammars.
  • No source.
  • Not using JMA locations primarily.
  • Replacing with a picture which is not at peak intensity.

-- Meow 09:49, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

Actually, I agree with you (even though I did one of them). There are a lot of sentences with no source. The question is: Where are the sources? I actually stated some sources in Typhoon Faxai, but they are not there, now. I have investigated that in the last 3 months, there are more edits in the 2014 article, which are from anonymous users. Typhoon2013 (talk) 00:14, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
No need to worry about sources. Most of them are in this page. -- Meow 06:22, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Actually there is a big need to have sources for impact related stuff and i do not like seeing edits from @Typhoon2013: saying that he got the latest death total from the Negouri page which is not good.Jason Rees (talk) 22:45, 13 July 2014 (UTC)`
I really feel upset for some people’s edits— full of incorrect and unofficial sentences without any reference. -- Meow 03:58, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

Current typhoon information and complexity

What happened? It grew larger and larger, and now it becomes too large to read other paragraphs. Moreover, some people try to make typhoon articles so complex that most of people cannot read at all. -- Meow 09:22, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

Rounding up damages

Hey. I do not like anonymous users editing this article, especially one of them. This user has been reverting my edits about rounding damages in the season effects. Thanks for Dustin mentioning my name in that user's talk page. Meow and Jason Rees, please keep an eye and protect this article. Typhoon2013 (talk) 06:12, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

The Deutsche Telekom AG editor (it uses multiple IP addresses) is the one doing this. I think that the editor is not intentionally trying to cause harm, but I do think the editor should at least attempt to discuss this before proceeding with these instances of rounding. Dustin (talk) 06:16, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
(edit conflict) You could always request semi-protection. Hate to see that you'll be gone for a while, Typhoon2013. United States Man (talk) 06:19, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
It does not work. I requested several days ago, but the administrators denied. -- Meow 07:05, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
I agree with you both, he needs a discussion. United States Man, what do you mean I'm gone for a while? Typhoon2013 (talk) 07:09, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
@Typhoon2013: I figured you being in school may have meant you wouldn't be around as much. United States Man (talk) 19:39, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
Putting my admin hat, that is a textbook example of a case where protection is absolutely not necessary (good faith edits causing a minor dispute), so I wouldn't bother with WP:RFPP. It will just get declined. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 19:13, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
It's ok United States Man, school here is only until September 26 and then it starts on October 13. I will still be here in Wikipedia unless studies. Typhoon2013 (talk) 20:04, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
Good then. You help a lot here. United States Man (talk) 19:59, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Tropical Depression (96W)

It was upgraded to a TD by JMA on 19 July, but it was downgraded back to a LPA on 22 July. However, JMA upgraded the same LPA to a TD again. Should they be considered as the same system? This issue should be debated again, as the previous seasons did not spit them. -- Meow 04:49, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

Hmmm. That's interesting Meow. I do not know about this one, but I think someone can help you out for more investigation. Question: Do you have a source for this? Typhoon2013 (talk) 07:34, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
[1] If you want all sources, I will give you. Well, I don’t like your attitude, sometimes. -- Meow 16:01, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
Hmmm.... This is a tricky problem that i have never liked as the problem comes with sourcing the fact that the two tropical depressions were connected for the reader even though we know that they maybe connected. Let me have a look through the WWJP25s, STWAs, and what Guam saying on the system there maybe a way we can work around the problem to get a solution.Jason Rees (talk) 17:53, 26 July 2014 (UTC)
The first TD and Lingling were logically the same system, too. -- Meow 17:14, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
I can confirm the current TD and the one on July 19th are the same as they were/are followed as 96W by the NRL. As for Lingling, they cannot be considered the same storm as the JMA has already released their best track and does not include the first TD as part of it, therefore they are to be considered separate systems. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 23:36, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
Your reason does not work. JMA best track does not include the track of the previous TD because it was downgraded to a LPA. For 96W, JMA will only include the part after July 26. -- Meow 02:59, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for my attitude @Meow. Well, let's see the best track of JMA (and possibly JTWC) if they are really the same or separate systems at its post-analysis.Typhoon2013 (talk) 07:42, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
By the rules, JMA always does not recognise the TD track before its LPA stage. (TD -> LPA -> TD -> TS ... like this) JTWC does not recognise Nakri so there is probably no post-analysis for Nakri. -- Meow 14:42, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
@Meow: Do you know that for certain? - After all they could always change their minds on if something is a TD or not. Also dont forget now that it is a named storm that there will be some post-analysis for Nakri from the CMA, HKO and JMA.Jason Rees (talk) 14:58, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
@Jason Rees: JMA does not treat a low-pressure area as a cyclone, yet their best track data only includes the cyclone stage, including tropical and extratropical cyclones. -- Meow 15:10, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

Super Typhoon Halong

Infoboxes

Hey, something is happening with the new infobox (infobox hurricane) again. Just saying, do we need to use the new one or the old one (infobox hurricane current). Because I think that since it is not yet that better, we should use the old one first. What do you think?Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:00, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Well, this is the same issue I had 2-3 weeks, ago. I promised that this will never happen again. Please see my talk page so you know what happened. Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:02, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
Instead of posting here - come to the project page and help us shape the infoboxes for the future.Jason Rees (talk) 19:05, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
@Typhoon2013: Go ahead and use the old one. We know it works and there are no problems with it. United States Man (talk) 15:47, 2 August 2014 (UTC)
@United States Man: It's okay now. User:Netoholic had already fixed it. No problems now and I hope this type of problem is now finished. Typhoon2013 (talk) 04:10, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

Links in season summary timeline

Recently I added the links in the season summary timeline, but someone removed it. Should I add the links back? Krit-tonkla talk 01:31, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

As nobody answered, I will ask again. The Atlantic and EPAC season summary timeline both have links to the individual TS/Hurricanes pages. Should I add the links in this article? Krit-tonkla talk 10:32, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
@Krit-tonkla: They should be there. If someone removes them again, find out who it was and make sure they know. United States Man (talk) 21:21, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Personally i do not see the reason why we need the links in the SS timeline image since WP:Overlink exists - same with seasonal effects charts.Jason Rees (talk) 21:49, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Why not? WP:OVERLINK applies to prose, doesn't it? May as well remove the links from every timeline then, even the really significant seasons, such as 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, 1997 Pacific hurricane season, and others. Dustin (talk) 21:55, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
WP:Overlink applies to the whole article i believe and I have always tried to stick to it. When i looked at the policy just now the line: "Generally, a link should appear only once in an article, but if helpful for readers, links may be repeated in infoboxes, tables, image captions, footnotes, and at the first occurrence after the lead." Jason Rees (talk) 22:19, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Based on that, it doesn't go against having the links there, since it is a table. United States Man (talk) 23:44, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
I think you missed the "if helpful for readers" part there USM, however i must say after the crap over the last few weeks im not going to enforce it either way. Bigger fish etc....Jason Rees (talk) 00:20, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
I am getting tired of all this policy interpretation business... Dustin (talk) 00:29, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
I added the links back.Krit-tonkla talk 01:57, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
@User:Krit-tonkla, this is the western pacific basin and it is different to the EPac and Atl basins. In the season article, I removed the links, but I added the links in the timeline article. Just remember that the WPac basin is different (as of Wikipedia).Typhoon2013 (talk) 05:32, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Hurricane/Typhoon Genevieve

Just saying, in this site: http://weathergaines.blogspot.co.nz/ , even though agencies hasn't say anything about the crossing, it says on satellite imagery that it is at the 180th degree mark. In the same site, there is a map below the pacific satellite imagery which is MeteoEarth with tells you location, winds and pressure. In that map it says that the center of Genevieve is located at 179.3E. With this information, shall I state in the Eastern Pacific article that it had already crossed? Typhoon2013 (talk) 05:48, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Oh, also this site here: http://tropic.ssec.wisc.edu/real-time/westpac/movies/gmsirbbm/gmsirbbmjava.html . There are two eyes in the imagery of Genevieve and I do not know which is which? I'll say to add the infobox of Genevieve in the 2014 typhoon season in the next hour. If you don't agree it is OK, I won't be angry. :) Typhoon2013 (talk) 05:51, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
Please ignore this section since it is already classified as T1413 by JMA. Have a good day. Typhoon2013 (talk) 09:00, 7 August 2014 (UTC)
@Typhoon2013: - The system could have gone in at anytime after 03z last night as the standard is when the warning center in charge of the system passes the buck over. So in this case The CPHC said in their 03z discussion that the next warnings would be issued by the JMA/JTWC as the system was moving into the WPAC.Jason Rees (talk) 13:04, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Damages of Nakri/ 96W

Hey guys, I've found this source: http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cagayan-de-oro/local-news/2014/08/02/lpa-leaves-over-p5-m-damages-misor-357308 . It says about the damages from a LPA, which actually became Inday and then Nakri. An anonymous user doesn't agree with this, since he said that it is a different LPA, somehow. Do you think we should put it in the season effects in Nakri's section? Typhoon2013 (talk) 03:19, 10 August 2014 (UTC)
