Do not merge[edit]

There is no reason to have the merge tag. The 2013 season is already in the planning stages. Doctorindy (talk) 13:38, 15 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bringing this article back in line with other motorsport pages[edit]

Hi,

I've just gone through and trimmed out a whole lot of excessive detail that was largely unconfirmed, and reformatted the tables to make this article consistent with other motorsport season pages - like 2013 Formula One season and 2013 World Rally Championship season. I think the Indycar pages have had their own format for far too long, one that treats Wikipedia as a news service. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 05:10, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss this at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_American_Open_Wheel_Racing before making any changes as all the pages in this project are formatted in this way.Froo (talk) 12:00, 22 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I can agree with the changes to remove most of the Schedule Development and the Team and driver changes, since currently most of the information is just saying that such and such a race/driver/team is confirmed for 2013, when a reference link would probably be sufficient. I daresay that most of the backlash was probably due to the high character change count because of the removal of so many references merely confirming a race/driver/team.
Grouping the driver chart based on full-time/part-time/Indy-only status? Maybe it could work, but it'll end up changing a lot over the year as one-off guys pick up more races. As long as the distinction doesn't become a topic for argument - I can think that the situation with the Dragon cars from last year might possibly be an example of such an argument.
Also, while I'd prefer the teams section sorted by alphabetical team name rather than car number (especially as there can be so many car numbers entered for very few events), it really doesn't matter too much. TheChrisD RantsEdits 02:34, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Like those pages, should we also cut the sponsors from the page as well? Since the NASCAR pages are doing it for 2013, and no-one else is either.Gaeaman787 (talk) 02:38, 24 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:ScotchCroat has just re-added the sponsors column - are we utilising it this year, or removing like other motorsport articles? TheChrisD RantsEdits 11:58, 26 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I already removed it ChrisD. We're removing sponsors from all team tables.Gaeaman787 (talk) 20:43, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I'm a little confused by the policy. Why delete the sponsorship info from last season's page and this upcoming season's, but leave it on pages from the earlier 2000s? If it's uniformity you're after, pardon my saying this, I think you're failing at it by pulling the sponsors out. I know I've gone to races, seen sponsors that I've never heard of, then been able to go to the IndyCar Wikipedia pages where sponsors are present and find out about the company. (Example: when Dad's Root Beer sponsored Mike Conway in 2010). People who are casual race fans visiting the page are not necessarily going to recognize driver names; it's going to be by numbers and colors, i.e., sponsors. Especially given that the numbers on Indycars these days see to be getting smaller and less visible.User:ScotchCroat(talk) 09:25, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it would make sense if we were all at the races trying to identify people, but this is an encyclopedia. Admittedly the classic pages for IndyCar and other motorsports aren't maintained constantly and aren't up to the same standards as the modern pages. But not everyone's going to go to the races. For example, if someone was going to watch a race, and let's say Simona got injured at Milwaukee and needed to be replaced by Saavedra, who brought 6 sponsors to fund his way into the ride. We would include the fact that Saavedra would drive the 78, but we wouldn't note his sponsors, since they don't add anything to the page. The imporant points of a season page are the teams, the drivers, and the races they're running. Gaeaman787 (talk) 18:23, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, Scotch, its better to bring up your issue at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_American_Open_Wheel_Racing Note there was already a discussion about sponsors.Gaeaman787 (talk) 20:35, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category: American Championship Car Seasons[edit]

I propose two new Wiki categories: One for all IndyCar racing seasons and all IndyCar racing champions. Other major championships have a Wiki category for their champs. 71.210.21.155 (talk) 00:33, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Switching up Infobox[edit]

I'm thinking of switching how the infobox template is set up. Instead of going by team, what about by engine manufacturer. So instead of Team to engine to driver, Have it be engine to team (from a-z of course) to driver. As well, since 92% of the drivers are running the whole schedule and alot of the partial entires are going to be running at Indy (except for Conway), wouldn't it be better to split up the table. Any driver changes would be accounted for by placing that drivers name under the former. Gaeaman787 (talk) 06:09, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Schmidt cars[edit]

So, based on various news stories I'm reading (both official IndyCar site and elsewhere), I am being led to believe that Pagenaud is racing under the Schmidt-Hamilton banner, whereas Vautier will be under the Schmidt-Peterson banner, as both cars have separate equity partners - but it's still meant to be all the same team. How can we best represent this in the table? TheChrisD RantsEdits 00:21, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Davey Hamilton's no longer a part of the team. Their site reads as Schmidt Peterson, and Sam Schmidt and Ric Peterson are listed as the only owners.Gaeaman787 (talk) 01:26, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IndyCar site news report says otherwise TheChrisD RantsEdits 03:45, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I know, but we don't know of the team's status regarding their contract with Hamilton, and it does say that Pagenaud will be in the SHM car, while Vautier is in the SPM car...which makes no sense. And the actual team name is apparently Schmidt Hamilton Peterson HP Motorsports. Should we put that in until we know the fate of Hamilton?Gaeaman787 (talk) 04:26, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

First Toronto Race[edit]

I believe the Driver Standings chart is wrong for this race. Dario received a time penalty for blocking Power on the last couple laps, and was dropped from the podium to 13th, moving others like Marco and TK up a spot. Granted, it was a Barnhart ruling. Did Beaux reverse it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.234.185.69 (talk) 13:11, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewed and overturned. Craig(talk) 17:21, 24 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Craig. I hadn't heard it was overturned. Walker made the right move. I don't know why Barnhart is still allowed anywhere near an IndyCar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.234.185.69 (talk) 12:56, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
