Germany

This says that a guy and his sister may have been infected after he got back from a trip to Mexico. The two had normal flu symptoms—however, rapid tests showed that neither him nor his sister have A/H1N1. A spokesperson of the hospital said that she didn't know about a third person. New Zealand now has 4 confirmed cases. However no details have been provided about the new confirmed case other than that it is not one of the Rangitoto college group. The MOH has also stopped providing a geographic breakdown of the figures, so we don't know what geographic area the new confirmed case is in. Hence the map is now out of date as there may now be a confirmed case outside Auckland. Furthermore we have no way of updating it. Six confirmed cases now as of update 22. However we have more information. It looks like the confirmed cases are in Auckland and in Hawkes Bay, so there should be two red areas on the map. Brazil: 3 for 11 the suspect cases of swine flu..
The Ministry of Health, of the government, spread in the night of this Monday a note informing that it accompanies the level of health of 11 persons who came from the countries affected by the swine flu with the symptoms of the disease. In accordance with the organ, however, no case was confirmed till night of this Monday.

Technically it won't be removed but it will be updated to 0 with a source (so that we don't mistakenly re-add the same infected source back in later). Map of Germany
The map of Germany is pointless at best and misleadingly alarmist at worst. There is one confirmed case in Nuremberg, with the result that all of Bavaria is now colored red on the map as if the entire state were somehow infected. It should remain red, there is one confirmed case, therefore it should be red. Consider the Canadian provinces, the larger of which are 3x the size of Germany, but they're colored red. My point was not that Bavaria shouldn't be colored red, but that the map shouldn't be there at all. But now I see there are similar maps for many other countries, so either they should all go or they should all stay. I still think all of them are misleading as both confirmed and unconfirmed cases are so sporadic (at least outside Mexico). Australia Map
There are unconfirmed cases in Queensland and Western Australia yet the map does not indicate that. I would be happy to rectify this if someone could please tell me which software to use. SVG files don't load in GIMP.

The file is a .svg file and can be edited with a text editor to change the colours, it is not binary. But the line was too long for vi. I used sed but it stuffed the last line. Should the table in this article and the 2009 swine flu outbreak not now have a column showing human-to-human transfer? This is more of an indicator of the outbreak than holidaymakers returning home. Countries where this is happening are announcing it.--ML5 (talk) 19:39, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Singapore
False alarms and hysteria?
As of today (2. May 09), the Singaporean Health Ministry has informed all students at university that they must take thermometer measurements prior to entering exam halls from now on and are not permitted to enter if high. As students are not able to re-take any exam under any circumstances here, this means that they would have to fail that particular exam. - I know this is not really headline news, but I just felt like sharing the madness that the hysteria has caused around the world. There are no reported cases or probable cases in Singapore so far. Just thinking about thousands of students taking exams, I bet at least a few will have higher temperatures, and that they have to go through all this nonsense is just ridiculous. - In fact, knowing this country this is one of the typical measures taken to create fear in order for the citizens to rally around 'the' party in protection.
Any thoughts on mentioning something about the side-effects to all this hysteria? Unnecessary slaughtering of 300,000 pigs in Egypt and the like. (apparently they belonged mostly to Coptic Christians.) Or look at the number of possible cases in the UK - skyrocketing out of angst. This could all turn into a classical case of ringing the fire alarm when there is no fire. - And next time no one will believe it (and more to the point, if this virus mutates by the next season, public response will be lower).

Thailand
1. Can we make a separate article for Thailand akin to Mexico, US, UK and Spain. If this is not necessary can we please reduce the size of the section.
2. Thailand so far as a sum total of 2 suspected cases. No one has died, no one has been confirmed of having it. Why then is this section growing and growing each time I come back. Someone is adding every tiny little bit of excruciating detail that is totally unnecessary.
3. The sections on France (4 confirmed), Germany (9 confirmed) Denmark, Austria, Ireland and Netherlands all have one confirmed case - added together all of those sections are still shorter than that of Thailand which has zero. Can we therefore delete most of the Thailand section, or if someone is adamant about keeping it then create a separate article for it.

Central America and the Caribbean
I am reversing one more time the inclusion of this region within North America. First, such change should have been discussed here before editing, I as requested in my previous rv. Furthermore:
Nowhere in the list it says countries are organized by continents. Countries are organized by regions, and Central America and the Caribbean are one of such regions, widely used by international organizations.
The article has a worldwide view, therefore if the definition of continents is different by language and regions (see Number of continents]) it is better to organized the countries by regions to avoid the different interpretations.
As explained in the link above, in most countries in Latin America the Americas are divided in three sub-continents, North, Central, and South America.

And I am reversing it yet again. Per North America and its many referenced citations, the inclusion of Central America and the Caribbean in the North American continent is common in English; what other languages may include or exclude from the continent is irrelevant in this, an article in the English Wikipedia. Even the United Nations indicates this (also in French): "The continent of North America (003) comprises Northern America (021), Caribbean (029), and Central America (013)." To do otherwise places undue weight on relatively uncommon notions in English, against Wikipedia's neutral point-of-view policy. That is not to say that other perspectives are not appreciated, but they must be put in perspective: all the articles you've linked to indicate essentially the same thing regarding content (e.g., the lead of the 'continent' article). And, actually, the article indicates upfront that the countries are organized alphabetically by continents/regions. You are not a consensus. Actually, I did provide a justification in my initial edit summary: "in English, Central America is usu. a region of North America & definitely not a continent in any language", which you seemed content to diminish through your revert. Summarizing my point. As with Oceania, it is better to keep the original organization of the countries by region and not by country, since there is no universal definition of the continents across languages and across countries. The Peruvian map is incorrect, the virus have been confirmed in Lima Province, which is the metropolitan area of Lima, the map currently have in red the Lima Region where no cases are confirmed or suspected. The Japan map File:H1N1_Japan_Map.svg (the second version) is incorrect, and this map should be removed. No domestic infection case has been confirmed in Tokyo. This map is now questioned also at Japanese Wikipedia, mainly because Tokyo is categorized mistakenly. Drawing area-grouping maps for certain countries (like this one) may be a good idea, but such a map should not be used at least until it becomes well-verifiable. What is the source for Tokyo? The problem as to this map is not where Narita Airport is located (exactly not in Tokyo, though). I think port-quarantined (i.e. non-domestic) cases are to be excluded from such an area-grouping map. If included, wrong information can be read from the map as if an outbreak had been confirmed in a certain area, only because an international airport is located there. --Dumpty-Humpty (talk) 02:58, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

I see no reason to exclude quarantined cases, since other countries include these cases in their maps. And non-Domestic cases are also included in those maps, so why should Japan be special? Hi. Please note that Narita International Airport (a.k.a. New Tokyo International Airport) is located in Chiba prefecture, NOT in Tokyo metropolitan prefecture. Actually no infected patients found in Tokyo for now. I don't know if or not sates (or prefectures) just having quarantine station at international airport where infection case confirmed are colored red in those for other countries such as the United Sates, but at least the current image having Tokyo in red is obviously wrong. I wish I could fix it, but my paint tool seems not good for the job. Please be sure not to overlook the difference between coloring by governments (as examples shown by 76.66.202.139) and categorizing local districts in one country like Japan with a non-federal government. As a result of nation-run quarantine, Japan became a country whose government confirmed infection cases, and Japan in a world map can be colored as so; but it's of no use coloring a district in Japan because of the quarantined cases: they were not detected by Narita City, and they do not mean that a person in Narita City was confirmed infected. On the other hand, the cases of Kobe City, for example, are the cases of persons in the city, and were detected by the city and were confirmed by the government of Japan as domestic cases. Japanese ministry, however, is now treating port-quarantined cases, which are not spreading in town, and domestic cases differently; it is "Japan-POV", in other word. On 22 May I've got a tool to handle SVG file; just now I colored Kyoto Prefecture as it got confirmed cases (source), and Awaji Island because Hyogo Prefecture did. Shiga had already been colored as so. Number of suspected cases that are NEGATIVE
The one thing I see missing from the table that would give a ratio indication of the transmission rate of the virus now, is a column to report on the number of suspected cases that are reported to be NEGATIVE. The table over time, depicts the change in status to the number of cases that are postive.
Further, the number of suspected cases that are reported fluctuates a lot more than the confirmed cases. Right now that only shows one side of the story as suspected cases may be removed because it some are erroneous, not becuase it was confirmed negative. So perhaps report the erroneous number as well, if not here on another page. It is vital to understand how many suspected and investigated cases are reporting NEGATIVE. This may obviously be very hard to do as bad news is discovered and spread more than news that does not shock, but reduces the expectation of the event. Prehaps Google Flu Trends can help.
This page is BRILLIANT, it is a fairly accrurate (as fairly can be) and vital number representation of the past week, this can not be found anywhere else. The version history will be (painful) but valuable for someone if the wanted to try to estimated the doubling time of the suspects and confirmed case. That is an important figure. For people and not only Google, to be trending the future, we need to think of the value that this massive community of people can make in realtime, to assiting us to get an informed overview of the current state and future evolution. To ALL technical people out there humanity has a virus and we have no patch, it has spread to multiple subnets and it is spreading within these subnets, it has spread from a subnet to another. AND we are NOT shutting down the gateways. If it does not stop naturely than we have a pandemic already. The network has a virus.
What is the infection ratio, what is the transmission rate, these are not the most important things. These numbers will represent the change, either way, decrease or increase. Someone that knows wikipedia better than I would know if that was possible to do or not.
If no one registers an objection, I'm going to seriously trim the UK section. It is exceedingly long for something that already has its own subarticle. The US or Mexico, both more greatly affected do not suffer from excessive section length. 70.29.208.129 (talk) 12:22, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Extending it to 50 000 is most likely not very much needed at this time I suppose, seeing only two countries have more than 5000 cases, and the chance of any of them reaching 50000+ before the end of next month is not very high, I do not see the need to revolutionize the whole map by adding a new color. The North American map is missing Greenland. As Iceland, Canada, USA and Denmark all have swine flu, Greenland could conceivably get cases as well. Since Greenland is part of North America, it should appear in gray on this map. 70.29.208.129 (talk) 11:45, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Do keep in mind that Greenland actually is a separate country, and is considered to be a member of Europe, even though it geographically is a part of North America. I think it should be considered a country, and hence its cases should be individual.
In 1979, Denmark granted home rule to Greenland, with a relationship described by the Rigsfællesskabet, and in 2008 Greenland voted to become a separate country within the Kingdom of Denmark, effective June 2009. -- Greenland article
It is geographically part of North America, and should appear on the North American map. It is part of NORAD (North American Air Defense Command) with a NORAD base. Its nearest neighbour is Canada. Keep in mind that France has overseas territories in North America as well... St.Pierre-et-Miquelon. That does not change the fact that those islands are part of North America, just as Greenland is, even though politically, they are enjoined to Europe. French Guiana is also politically part of Europe, but it appears on the map of South America. And as for a "separate country"... I think the scale needs adjusting. For one thing "red" as 30+ looks out of place, for another, 20+ and 30+ seems too close together. I suggest using the standard key (1+/5+/50+/500+/5000+) or the magnitude modified key (1+/10+/100+/1000+) or the 5x key (1+/5+/20+/100+/500+/2000+/10000+) or the doubling key (1+/5+/10+/20+/50+/100+/200+/500+/1000+/2000+/5000+/10000+)
