"Future election"[edit]

Could people who add such tags remove them when the election has taken place? Otherwise it might stay up there for some time to come in error - thanks! John Smith's (talk) 10:46, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It applies to all elections for which the full results are not yet known, and that usually means having them in articles for a while longer. —Nightstallion 22:48, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Khurcha shooting[edit]

Seeing that it was an important contextual event, we should look for ways to better integrate the Khurcha shooting in the coverage of the 2008 parliamentary election in Georgia. There should at least be a mention of it. It's not unusual for a page about an election to mention some context if it's important See for instance how we cover the violence before the Nigerian election: "Nigerian parliamentary election, 2011" (see section "Violence"). Or take a look at the page we have about the last Egyption parliamentary election "Egyptian parliamentary election, 2010" for some examples of how it is customary to provide context beyond the polls and hard facts. Kober: How would you suggest that the Khurcha incident be integrated here, or if excluded, why leave out such an important contextual event? 85.117.45.9 (talk) 17:14, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's really an important contextual event. Given the propagandist importance attached to such incidents in both Georgian and Russian media, it can be mentioned, but it does not deserve the amount of attention you are devoting in your text. --KoberTalk 17:27, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The practice of Russian and Georgian media might be worth mention somewhere, also in regards to the Khurcha shooting, but seems to be outside of what we are concerned with on this page, which is a complete representation of what happened in connection with and during this election. The shooting should be mentioned just as much as is needed for our portrayal; how much it deserves is another question. There are two important things that make it important to this page; first how it dominated the news on election day, and second, that an authoritative investigative team found reason to suspect that it was staged by the Georgian government. I haven't seen sources regarding how Russian and Georgian media made propaganda out of it; maybe you can contribute some, if you think that is a fair statement, and it might be added in a separate section, if this is as important as you seem to imply. 8h3d0kg (talk) 12:15, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
