Article Introduction[edit]

The introduction to this article violates the NPOV policy as well, with its commentary on the undemocratic nature of the debates.

I agree—the last two paragraphs need to be rewritten with a neutral tone, and to provide a reliable reference.--Evil1987 13:52, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Hampshire Debate[edit]

I agree with the previous user's comment about not covering Gravel. Kucinich is hardly mentioned as well. It's bad enough that the media is trying to frame our view of who the "real" candidates are. I hoped that wiki would be more even handed. Nphaneuf 17:16, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also agree. RedManiac2 01:46, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nobody mentioned that gravel was in it and made a name for himself. He was a memorable part of the debate. To not include him is a non-neutral point of view.--75.81.174.114 22:19, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

South Carolina Debate Section[edit]

I drastically changed the South Carolina Debate Section, you can see my changes here. The reason for the large removals is because the section was very badly written and contained alot of opinion. I don't think we should have a single image of a candidate in a section essentially exemplifying them as the "winner of the debate" as was done with an image of Hillary Clinton in that section. The last paragraph referring to the candidates who were polling lower then the main ones also contained many weasel words. There were "rave reviews" for Sen. Joe Biden, the responses by Gov. Bill Richardson "were deemed as too detailed" but "other than that, reviews for him were good as well". All without any kind of citation. Feel free to discuss.--Jersey Devil 00:11, 3 June 2007 (U

I agree. -Tmchk | Talk 02:58, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Delays in Debates[edit]

It's a shame that there are big gaps in debates with respect to the timings. Entire weeks go untouched. Gautam Discuss 08:28, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Media spin does not belong here as it violates NPOV policy.[edit]

If we are to include media spin, which media is to be included. What about the vast numbers of internet media and their spin? What about blog sites? INternet polls? ETC ETC. Certainly the corporate media does not need more of a platform here as their influence on elections is already immense.01001 18:08, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with your deletion of that section. I don't know why the user UnitedStatesIndia keeps adding that stuff on here.--Jersey Devil 22:20, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Transcripts[edit]

It's obviously important to link to the transcripts. Is it better to link to each debate's transcript in it's own section or all at the end as external links? I found the June 3 New Hampshire one: http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0706/03/se.01.html --Jackdavinci 22:59, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also really want some links to transcripts. I watched the Sept. 9 Univision debate but have had little luck finding a transcript in Spanish or English. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.195.82.153 (talk) 00:05, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

June 28th Debate on PBS[edit]

I thought this debate had been on the page, but it seems missing now. Was it cancelled? Casey14 18:58, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

NAACP[edit]

What about the "NAACP Forum"? You know, the one where Hillary Clinton and John Edwards were overheard saying they want to "narrow the herd" (not a quotation)?

CNN/Time/Warner YouTube Democratic debate 7-23-07 (unequal time allotted)[edit]

Anyone else notice how CNN/Time/Warner dictated who got to speak, and for how long. I actually counted how many times each candidate was allowed to speak. I only counted once, so I could be a tiny bit off here and there, anyone who wants to refine is welcome.

Candidates, # times allowed to speak: Biden 12, Clinton 15, Dodd 13 (plus campaign video), Edwards 15, Gravel 10, Kucinich 10, Obama 19 (plus campaign video), Richardson 12,

I also found figures online (from the Dodd campaign) that list the length of time that each candidate had to speak.

Candidate length of time allowed Biden 7:05, Clinton 12:26, Dodd 8:39, Edwards 10:30, Gravel 4:10, Kucinich 6:01, Obama 15:11, Richardson 9:18, Cooper (the moderator) 11:37,

rtsp links[edit]

I've never happened to link video from C-SPAN before, but apparently they use rtsp and normal Wikipedia link formatting doesn't work. Any ideas? Flatterworld 01:43, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Democratic Party sponsored vs. non-sponsored[edit]

I believe that each debate in the list should contain a clear designator to specify whether the debate was officially sponsored by the democratic party or not. For example, the AARP debate was not a democratic party sponsored event, to my knowledge.

January NH Debate[edit]

I believe the ABC/WMUR January 5 debate is to be held in Manchester/Goffstown, New Hampshire on the campus of Saint Anselm College. ABC and Fox News are both rumored to be utilizing the campus as their headquarters for New Hampshire coverage as they did in 2004. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.209.67.250 (talk) 07:05, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

January 31 CA Debate[edit]

I added the time but didn't footnote it. The source was http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/debates/. Jimgettman (talk) 05:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

February 27 OH Debate[edit]

Possibly will happen more updating will be necessary when the info comes in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.101.71.173 (talk) 07:53, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In debate?[edit]

"Candidates in Debate

   * Senator Hillary Clinton - New York
   * Senator Barack Obama - Illinois
   * Former Senator Mike Gravel - Alaska

"

Gravel doesn't have enough support to get into the debates. Yes, he is still a candidate, but all of the future debates areset to be 1 on 1. Contralya (talk) 17:09, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Feb 28 Symposium[edit]

Why is this listed here? This is not a Democratic presidential debate, it's an energy symposium which will be addressed by one Democratic candidate and one Republican, and a bunch of industry types and local dignitaries.217.43.168.194 (talk) 22:40, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Debates" vs "forums"[edit]

Shouldn't the "forum" type events, in which the candidates appeared and answered questions separately, be separated from the true debates in which they responded to each other as well as to the moderator/audience questions? That's how the articles on both the Democratic and Republican debates for 2016 are handled. 207.98.198.84 (talk) 00:13, 25 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

AFL-CIO debate in chart[edit]

In the chart of debates, it marks Gravel as having not been invited to the AFL-CIO debate at Soldier Field in Chicago. I could see why one might have marked him in such a manner, however I personally feel this is inaccurate. Gravel was invited to the AFL-CIO forum. He failed to respond in-time to the questionnaire. He was refused an exception to allow him to submit past the deadline. Should he not be marked as absent from that debate rather than entirely uninvited?
