Is there something amiss with the Andorra rugby template? I've copied and pasted from the other teams in that table and sandboxed, but the table template still seems wrong.

I have removed the claim that Germany has already been promoted regardless of the results in the remaining matches. As much as wish it was true it is still possible for both belgium and moldova to go ahead on points difference.

There has been a widespread misunderstanding of the tie break rules, many people believing that it is points difference between the tied teams that is determinative. This is not true. It is clear in the competition rules I have posted here from FIRA that it is points difference from all the teams in the competition. The IRB also repeats this view on their website in their latest comments on the results of last weekend.

Germany are not there yet, but i will be keenly hoping that the Dutch and Ukrainians will keep it close against the Belgians and Moldovians respectively. Thecrystalcicero (talk) 22:26, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

oh my god, belgium almost does it, unconfirmed report out of belgium they won 51-3 tieing germany on points difference. now goes to try difference germany are on 18 - 18 and belgium were on 12 - 27 before this game so that if every point they scoed was through a try they still have fallen short, germany through on try difference, will post the exact amount when confirmation of the number of tries belgium scored is published. 84.57.255.230 (talk) 19:54, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, thanks to their Benelux comrades the Black Devils fell only a point short of going through on points difference. They scored eight tries in the last game and ended with a try diff of -7 (20 for 27 against) while Germany had a try diff of -/+0 (18 for and against). angels on a pinhead?[edit]

maybe I'm the pinhead but I have changed all that I have previously stated about the Fira tie-break rules, and I'm going to explain as fully as possible why. But first a brief rant against the fira website, why oh why is it the worst website in the world for getting clear information out of?

1. Changed the rules on the page to a verbatim one as stated on Div 2a's site. The first criteria is at best ambiguous and probably is utterly misleading. On a bare reading it seems to mean that the winner of the games between tied teams goes up, and one would assume that if the tied teams won one each of two games between them then you would move to the next criteria. This view is strengthened when the rules go on to state points difference come in effect in other criteria (ie if explicitly stated at x, then the silence at y on the same point can be taken to mean it is not a consideration). But this reading though valid on the wording was not what Fira meant (it is worth noteing that the Belgian RFU evidently believed that this was the rule).

2. Fira meant the first criteria to mean: "Where two (or more) teams are tied on points at the end of the season the champion is to be decided on the winner on aggregate between the tied teams."

3. Had the other interpretation been correct, Belgium in fact would have been promoted a - tied on points, b - tied on the head to head result, c - tied on points diff between all teams d - Belgium wins on better try difference in all games played (20 - 18 vs 18 - 18). What I hd written earlier about Germany having a better try difference was a mistake, but I beg pardon as I foolishly was using the information on the Fira website. They had counted 1 try Ukraine had scored against Belgium as 10 tries!

4. Anyway Gemany goes up, Belgium look good for getting there next time and if its any consolation for them not going up actually makes it easier for them to progress in the RWC qualifying rounds for Europe (to go to the same stage Germany must finish in the top three of Div 1 while Belgium needs to finish as champion of Div 2a).Thecrystalcicero (talk) 14:31, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
