New council, not just another election[edit]

I've removed the recent additions of gained/lost/held stats for the second time. This was a new district council, not a continuation of the previous county borough council. The existing councillors and aldermen in Cardiff continued to sit on the existing county borough council until 1974.
For this reason, the South Wales Echo coverage of the results didn't list gains/losses/holds. To list them in the Wikipedia article would be misleading and not particularly encyclopedic. Sometimes you simply can't apply the same generic 'cookie cutter' approaches to every local election page. Sionk (talk) 19:19, 15 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I actually agree with most of what you say here. The difference in this case is that the boundaries for the ward are the same as the old council so, for example, if after a boundary redraw (say for the house of commons), boundaries are unchanged, then the seat is not considered to be new.
Having said that because it is a new council then it is reasonable to consider the wards as new seats. I actually pondered, at length, which approach to take when editing the page and won't die in a ditch over it. So I will edit the page (again) to reflect new seat gains not holds of current seats.

Cheers
