Sverdlovsky District (Russian: Свердло́вский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[5] district (raion), one of the twenty-four in Oryol Oblast, Russia. It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,061.4 square kilometers (409.8 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Zmiyovka.[1] Population: 16,311 (2010 Census);[2] 18,070 (2002 Census);[7] 19,223 (1989 Soviet census).[8] The population of Zmiyovka accounts for 36.6% of the district's total population.[2]
