Raphael Borges Rodrigues (born 11 September 2003), known mononymously as Raphael, is a professional soccer player who plays as a winger for Macarthur. Born in the Netherlands, he represents the Australia national team at youth level.

Early life[edit]

Raphael was born in Maastricht, Netherlands to Cristiano dos Santos Rodrigues, a former professional footballer.[3] He moved to Adelaide, South Australia, with his family at the age of five, while his extended family remained in his father's hometown, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.[3] Raphael attended St Michael's College in Henley Beach and Parade College in Bundoora, Victoria.[3][4] He started playing football in Adelaide for Western Strikers before moving to Melbourne after failing to join Adelaide United.[3]

Club career[edit]

Melbourne City[edit]

Raphael first joined Melbourne City Academy in 2017, and signed a three-year scholarship contract in September 2019.[5][6] He re-signed for a season in October 2021, with an option to extend, after making five senior appearances since his first-team debut in the 2019–20 season, aged 16.[7] Raphael made his first start for Melbourne City in the Melbourne Derby on 6 June 2021.[8] He was named on the bench in the 2021 A-League Grand Final, being a part of City's first A-League trophy.[9]

On 23 March 2022, Raphael scored his first professional goal in a 2–1 win over Brisbane Roar at Moreton Daily Stadium.[10] Raphael was released by the club in June 2023.[11][12]

Macarthur FC[edit]

On 27 June 2023, Raphael was announced to have signed for Macarthur FC on a two-year contract.[13][14] Raphael managed three goals and two assists for the Bulls by February 2024.[15]
