Lewis Fry Richardson, FRS  (11 October 1881 - 30 September 1953) was an English mathematician, physicist, meteorologist, psychologist and pacifist who pioneered modern mathematical techniques of weather forecasting, and the application of similar techniques to studying the causes of wars and how to prevent them. He was the first person to attempt a solution of the primitive equations of the atmosphere to make a numerical weather forecast, decades before the first computers and almost 30 years before the next attempt. Although his calculations produced an unrealistic answer, his work paved the way for nearly all future weather models.
