Humayun Bashir Tarar is a BS-20 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) who is currently serving as the Director of the Integrated Border Management System at the Federal Investigation Agency in Islamabad, Pakistan since 15 April 2022 replacing Babar Bakht Qureshi. He previously served as the Director of Cyber Crime at the same agency and as the Deputy Inspector General of Traffic at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police. He has also held various other positions within the Punjab Police, including Deputy Inspector General of Police and Regional Police Officer.[1][2]

Early life and education[edit]

Hailing from Vanike Tarar, Hafizabad District, he is the son of the late Ch. Karimdad Tarar. Tarar earned a Master of Public Policy from the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford, a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship in Public Administration from Syracuse University's Maxwell School, and an MSc in International Relations from Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad.[3]

Career[edit]

In 1997, Tarar cleared the CSS exam and became a part of the Police Service of Pakistan. Before becoming the head of the FIA Cyber Crime Wing, Tarar held various positions within the law enforcement sector, including DIG Traffic Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He also served as DIG Punjab Highway Patrol, DIG/Head of Information Technology in Punjab Police, RPO Sahiwal, AIG Logistic and Procurement in Punjab, and DPO for Bahawalpur, Sheikhupura, and Sialkot, in addition to being the PS to IG Punjab.[1]
