Fireworks (Italian: Stranizza d'amuri, lit.'Strangeness of Love') is a 2023 Italian drama film co-written and directed by Giuseppe Fiorello, at his feature film debut. The film is based on the Giarre murder.

Production[edit]

The film is a dramatization of the Giarre murder.[1] It was produced by Ibla Film,[2] and was shot in the province of Syracuse, between Ferla, Marzamemi and Pachino.[3] The original title reprises a Franco Battiato song with the same name from his 1979 album L'era del cinghiale bianco.[4]

Release[edit]

The film was released in Italian cinemas on 23 March 2023.[5] It was screened at the 57th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.[6]

Reception[edit]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 100% of 9 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.90/10.[7] For this film Fiorello was awarded the Nastro d'Argento for best new director and was nominated for the David di Donatello in the same category.[8][9]
