Junior Garcia is a language teacher, activist, and member of the Lakota Nation. He recently appeared in Rising Voices, a documentary about the Lakota community's language revitalization efforts, produced by The Language Conservancy.

The Lakota language is spoken by about 6,000 people, primarily in the US American states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota and Montana. A Sioux language, Lakota is closely related to Dakotan varieties such as Yankton and Santee.
