Locality: San Vito quarry, San Vito, Ercolano, Monte Somma, Somma-Vesuvius Complex, Naples Province, Campania, Italy
Vaterites of the locality San Vito are microcrystalline with the largest crystals less than 2 mm across. This vaterite crystal is epitactic after aragonite. The crystal contains a triplet of aragonite inside it. At its terminus, twin seams of the aragonite triplet are visible. This greatly narrows stability and makes vaterite rarer at the locality.
Fundort: San Vito Steinbruch, Ercolano, Monte Somma, Provinz Neapel, Kampanien, Italien
