Summary

Description
English: Arms of Stapleton quartering Errington, with a baron's coronet above, on a building called The Gables in the village of Carlton, Yorkshire. Initials "HS", referring to Henry Stapleton, 9th Baron Beaumont (1848–1892) of Carlton Towers, who was responsible for the extensive Victorian-Gothic enlargement 1873-5 of that mansion house. The French motto Mieux Sera signifies "It will get better". Alan Murray-Rust: "The Gables, High Street, Carlton is an estate house, built in 1877 together with the cottages attached, by J F Bentley for Lord Beaumont. The design represents a move towards the main Arts and Crafts Movement. Listed Grade II". J F Bentley was responsible for much of the interior work 1875-90 at Carlton Towers.
