Summary

Description
English: President Ronald Reagan meets Katie Beckett, along with her parents, Julia and Mark Beckett as the President exits Air Force One on the tarmac of Cedar Rapids Municipal Airport, Iowa, 20 September 1984. After an encephalitis infection, Katie Beckett required regular ventilator assistance, a treatment that Medicaid would cover if she was hospitalized, but not at home. After being hospitalized nearly since birth, she became the inspirational case for the TEFRA, or "Katie Beckett" Medicaid waiver, enacted in 1982.
