English: “First Day Cover Commemorating the 200th Birthday of Johan Gadolin.” Postmarked in Turku, Finland, June 4, 1960. Witco Stamp Collection, Box 1. Science History Institute. Philadelphia. Cachet and stamp depict Johan Gadolin, who discovered the element yttrium and is considered the "founder of Finnish chemistry." The stamp commemorates the bicentennial of Gadolin's birth and features his likeness based on a portrait made when he was 19 years old. The cover is not created by the Post of Finland but by Jakobstads filatelister r.f., a private philatelic club.
