Confedetate States Patent #60 was granted to Jacob B. and William L. Platt of Augusta, Georgia on January 7, 1872 for "Camp Cots." The Patent is in three pages; page 1 (GR MS .006), documents the granting of Patent No. 60, signed and sealed by Thomas Bragg, Jr., Attorney General for the Confederate States Justice Department and Rufus R. Rhodes, Commissioner of Patents; page 2 (GR MS .007), lists specifications for the invention, describing a "new and improved universal cot for camp and hospital purposes" which can be "folded or rolled up into a small space when transported from place to place." Second half of Page 2 offers detailed descriptions with the associated drawings (figure 1, 2, 3 and 4) of camp cot on page 3 (GR MS .008); figure 1 shows cot fully set-up with the head elevated; figure 2, same but viewed from behind; figure 3, partly closed with one pair of legs extended; figure 4, cot is entirely folded up and secured with straps for transport.
