Summary

Description
English: Title: A building in Bluefield, West Virginia, that once housed a shop that sold "retread" tires

Physical description: 1 photograph : digital, tiff file, color.

Notes: Retreading, also known as "recapping," or "remolding" involved applying new treads to worn tires, a less-expensive alternative to replacing them. Retreading typically preserves about 90 percent of the material in spent tires. The technique, once widespread, lost favor in the late 20th and early 21st centuries with the advent of discount stores and tire departments of "big box" retailers that made entirely new tires more widely affordable.; Credit line: West Virginia Collection within the Carol M.
